Position Summary:

The Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, (PA, NP) shall be committed to contributing to the mission of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation (YKHC), “Working Together to Achieve Excellent Health.”  The PA is an employee working under the supervision of the Medical Director who is in turn supervised by the Chief of Staff.  Provides “float” coverage to other YKHC village clinics as assigned, providing primary (acute, chronic and preventive) health care and emergency care to those seeking health services at the village clinic.

Job Requirements:
  • PA, NP must have completed an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Training Program and received and maintained certification.
  • Two years minimum suggested experience level.  Should have experience with reading radiographs and dispensing medication.
  • Must have Alaska License and DEA license and National Certification
  • Must have the computer skills needed to access computerized medical records.
  • Needs the skills and knowledge to practice medicine in the area of their specialty.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor NP and PA students and oversee community Health Aide clinical practice.
Physical Demands:
  • Moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 25 lbs.)
  • Often standing and walking to assist patients
  • Vision requirements (will discuss upon interview)
Position Responsibilities:
  • Provides medical care to patients with the Corporate Mission in mind and in conformity with the administrative policies, procedures, and protocols of the YKDRH. 
  • Serves YKHC loyally, diligently, and effectively and at all times to exert he/her best efforts to promote the success of YKHC.  The PA, NP, shall devote his/her time, energy, and ability to the interest of YKHC, and to the discharge of his/her duties and responsibilities in an efficient, trustworthy, and businesslike manner.  He/she will do nothing, which will in any way impair or prejudice the name or reputation of YKHC.
  • Engages in the outreach health care activities of the Hospital/Sub-Regional Clinics to the villages of the YK Delta including Village trips and radio medical traffic if assigned as a responsibility. 
  • Participates in village clinic based patient care in accordance with published guidelines in quality assurance and scope of practice as established by his/her professional organization, and other medical staff activities, assisting and advising YKHC programs in areas of PA, NP expertise.
  • Accepts membership on staff committees as assigned, to participate in the activities, deliberations, and decisions of those committees within the context of the best interest of the patients, the corporation, and the medical staff.
  • Contributes to the training of PA, NP students who area accepted for clinical rotations at the YKDRH.
