Senior System/Application Administrator

A hybrid telework schedule will be considered for this position; hybrid is defined as a pre-determined blend of working from home and in the office. This position offers two (2) days in the office and three (3) days at home per week.

Colorado Springs Utilities is hiring a senior-level System/Application Administrator to provide technological support to critical customer application systems, including Customer Information Systems and Meter Management Systems, as well as a variety of applications supporting customer self-service and mobile workforce management. You will support our technology solutions through implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting both in-house developed and commercial off-the-shelf systems (COTS) deployed onsite and in public and private clouds. Our senior-level System/Application Administrators have opportunities to work independently on more complex incidents, problems, and projects, as well as run software upgrades while leveraging internal and external resources.

What Else Will You be Doing?

  • Managing and administering software systems to ensure high availability, reliability, interconnectivity, and security of supported business applications
  • Managing and administering application servers and software above the operating system layer (this includes startup/shutdown of Development, QA, and Production systems)
  • Installing, configuring, decommissioning, deploying, and/or tuning software applications
  • Troubleshooting and resolving production application and/or system issues
  • Identifying, evaluating, coordinating, scheduling, and installing application-related patches and upgrades
  • Participating in disaster recovery planning and testing, including producing and maintaining disaster recovery plans
  • Configuring and refining system monitoring and alerts
  • Planning, creating, improving, and maintaining procedures and documentation related to the administration of software applications, system and architecture design, implementation and back-out plans, user management, and system release management
  • Automating system administration functions, including environment refreshes and password changes
  • Coordinating with vendor support for issue resolutions, patching, system upgrades, and release management
  • Managing application-related projects, including requirements gathering and assessment, high-level design, effort estimations, and ROI analysis

Please note that this position requires participating in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7/365 support of critical applications.

Who You Are

  • Demonstrated application and/or software support experience
  • Experience with Oracle products (e.g., Customer Information, Meter Management) is valued - administering and supporting CIS and meter management systems
  • Experience with Oracle Java, Web Services, and XML is valued
  • Experience with Windows and Unix/Linux application administration is valued
  • Experience with technical process definition and optimization; system monitoring tools and techniques; and/or batch job scheduling and execution tools
  • Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field is valued

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions

  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or small amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
  • Positions in this class typically require reaching, standing, walking, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
