Director of Global Payroll

Location: Multiple Offices


 The Brattle Group is looking for a Director of Global Payroll to join our Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, or Washington, DC office. The Director of Global Payroll will lead the global Payroll function in executing all payroll and compliance activities for the Company’s multi-state and international payrolls in partnership with third party vendors. This is a hands-on position and collaborates closely with others in the Accounting group and various corporate departments, at all levels of the organization.  The position will play a key role in the payroll transformation to standardize, streamline and automate the global payroll processes. This position will report to the Senior Director of Accounting.


Some of the day-to-day responsibilities of this role include:

  • Lead the global payroll operations and payroll team to provide accurate and efficient payroll services to the global employees
  • Manage the relationship of external payroll service providers and monitor their effectiveness for the processing services provided by the vendor
  • Lead payroll transformation activities to harmonize payroll processes, enhance automation and implement new systems or vendors
  • Research requirements and lead implementation of new payroll setups with service providers in new countries in conjunction with international expansion efforts
  • Responsible for managing, and developing existing payroll staff
  • Keep abreast of federal, state, and local legal, benefit and tax requirements by reviewing existing and new legislation; enforce adherence to requirements and advise on needed actions
  • Perform research and analysis of tax issues. Propose and implement appropriate solutions (i.e. global treatment of relocation expenses, expats or seconded employees, cell phone, social security or national insurance exemptions)
  • Maintain and update documentation of payroll process and procedures
  • Operate with a mindset of continuous performance improvement to streamline and automate as opportunities arise
  • Additional tasks and payroll-related responsibilities to keep pace with growing global organizational needs




  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field, but will consider experience in lieu of degree
  • Minimum of 12 years of hands-on global  payroll experience with a minimum of 5 years as a payroll manager
  • Experience with employee relocation, tax gross-up, and Expats
  • Experience with benefit tax treatments
  • Knowledge of global payroll requirements with preference given to experience with UK, Spain, Italy, Australia, Belgium, France or Canada payrolls
  • Advanced knowledge of ADP Workforce Now and experience with ADP Celergo
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office products, specifically proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with SAP SuccessFactors desirable
  • A process improvement mindset and problem-solving abilities
  • Hands-on and able to work effectively with teams members and collaboratively across departments
  • Must be able to learn quickly and adapt to growing and changing environment
  • Night and weekend work as needed
  • Schedule to incorporate European time zone differences
