Summary:

The Cyber Security Analyst is responsible for developing and maintaining enterprise security documents (policies, standards, baselines, guidelines and procedures) under the direction of the Director of Systems and Design and CIO. The Cyber Security Analyst does routine system audits and access verification across all Heartland Alliance data. Additionally, the Cyber Security Analyst monitors key system and application activities as well as stay apprised of external threats as they relate to our technological landscape. The analyst will participate in incident response activities and provide advice of risk mitigation tactics. The Cyber Security Analyst acts as a liaison between business functions, Information Technology (IT) and leadership, providing guidance and direction for enterprise risk, threats, vulnerabilities, and best practices. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide analytical and technical security recommendations to other team members, other technology teams, security management, and business stakeholders.
  • Participate in the evaluation, deployment, integration and initial configuration of both in-place and new security solutions and of any enhancements to existing security solutions in accordance with standard best operating procedures.
  • Assist in developing technical solutions, enhancements to existing systems, and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks.
  • Maintain up-to-date detailed knowledge of the IT security industry including awareness of new or revised security solutions, improved security processes and the development of new attacks and threat vectors.
  • Maintain operational configurations of all in-place security solutions as per the established baselines.
  • Security Incident Event Monitoring (SIEM) and review of logs and reports of all in-place devices, whether they be under direct control (i.e., security tools) or not (i.e., workstations, servers, network devices, etc.).
  • Interpret the implications of that activity and devise plans for appropriate resolution.
  • Participate in investigations into problematic activity, as required and appropriate.
  • Participate in the identification of security breaches detected by security systems; and in the tracking, investigation, and resolution of these incidents.
  • Occasional support for Network and Systems teams
  • Occasional travel to various Heartland Alliance locations.
  • Typical hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Occasional weekends and after-hours as workload dictates.

 

Qualifications

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities with ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
  • Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment.
     

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Certifications in security-related practices or technology a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of information technology experience required; Minimum 1 year of experience in the InfoSec space required.
     

Language and Communications Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Excellent verbal and written skills; a strong leader in presenting information, ideas and results is required to internal and external audiences. 

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and area.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Technical Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office.  Specific areas of experience should include:

  • In-depth experience with network & system administration and architecture for one or more infrastructure technologies (networking, Windows OS, Linux OS, Active Directory, PKI, etc.) required.
  • Working technical knowledge of several of the infrastructure technologies preferred (such as Active Directory, Server 2016 & 2019, Azure, 0365, and various AV products, Vulnerability Management).
  • Experience with programming languages; or scripting languages such as PowerShell strongly preferred.
