Description

Summary:  This position will provide interpreting and translation services to Refugee and Immigrant Community Services’ participants Individual accountabilities and work volume will be established through the development of annual Success Objectives, within the framework outlined below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

  • Assist Refugee and Immigrant Community Services’ staff in facilitating communication so the participant receives quality care in a language that they understand.
  • Assist Refugee and Immigrant Community Services’ staff in assessing cultural factors that may impede appropriate case management.
  • Provide translation of information provided to patients who are being treated at medical institutions which do not provide internal translation.
  • Work to outreach and engage participants into services.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to standards of interpreting ethics including trauma-informed care.
  • Participate in Refugee and Immigrant Community Services’ cultural orientations, including, but not limited to: new arrivals orientation, R&P bi-weekly orientations, family strengthening orientations and parenting orientations.
  • Other duties may be assigned by program manager.

  • Education and/or Experience:   High school diploma or equivalent certificate from a recognized institution or two years of interpreting experience required.
  • Language Skills:   Fluent in a second language required.  Ability to verbally interpret accurately in a second language required.  Ability to identify cultural factors and relate to individuals on a personal level.  Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.  Demonstrated competency in public speaking and strong interpersonal skills required. Ability to also translate is preferred but not a requirement.
  • Ability to travel:  Ability to travel to different locations throughout the Chicagoland area to meet with staff and participants is required.
