Summary : As a member of the Martin's Family, the Continuous Improvement Automation Engineer is a professional who has proficient knowledge of technical details, participates in planning projects and installations, embraces continuous improvement, is rigorously dedicated to extraordinary quality and customer service, and continuously strives to improve communication channels. Executes installations of new systems ranging from a single piece to multiple pieces of equipment.  On existing systems completes modifications, upgrades, and expansions to include additions to the system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  include the following . Other duties may be assigned.  

  • Creates and modifies Allen Bradley and Modicon  programmable logic controller (PLC) programs for our bakery production.   

  • Identify and improve manufacturing profitability through productivity improvement, waste reduction and safety improvement.  

  • Creates and modifies HMI programs for our bakery production using FactoryTalk  View, Wonderware , and Vijeo .  

  • Designs engineering systems for the automation of industrial tasks.   

  • Researches, selects, or applies the following: sensors, vision systems, communication technologies, control devices for motion control, position sensing, and pressure sensing.  

  • Identifies and selects materials appropriate for mechatronic system designs.   

  • Upgrades the design of existing devices by adding mechatronic elements.  

  • Analyzes existing development or manufacturing procedures and suggest improvements.   

  • Develops data records and mapping to receive  from  and send to company databases,  using the  networking plan  defined by MIS  to support the equipment communications.  

  • Develops schematic diagrams, panel layout drawings, and plan layout drawings using Autodesk AutoCAD Electrical .  

  • Creates  and modifies  programs for  Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI), Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), and motor control devices.   

  • Use and maintain electrical related software programs.  

  • Inspects components of industrial equipment for accurate assembly and installation including review of blueprints, schematics, manuals, or other specification.   

  • Coordinates projects by controlling the schedules, budgets, interfacing with customers, and overall project management.   

  • Oversees the work of contractors in accordance with project requirements  

  • Provide clear work instructions, training, and design systems to promote sustainability of improvements.  

  • Maintains technical project files.  

  • Communicates design information and work s  effectively as a team with manufacturing personnel.   

  • Tests design solutions and publishes test results.   

  • Responds to “call-ins” outside of work schedule.  

  • Installs repaired equipment in various settings  

  • Troubleshoots equipment problems.  

  • Tests faulty equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test equipment or software, and applying knowledge of the functional operation of electronic  equipment  and systems.   

  • Provides Professional service.   

  • Works continuously to improve existing systems and new projects.  

  • Works effectively, efficiently, and positively with minimal supervision.   

  • Promotes, reports and adheres to safety, food safety, quality, and Good Manufacturing Practices regulations.  

  • Attends industry related training  

  • Grows continuously in industry knowledge  

  • Reports food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action  

  • Publishes engineering reports documenting design details before and after implementation  

  • Maintain and complete task schedule including written and verbal requests  

  • Confer with engineering staff to resolve problems  

  • Maintain detailed back-up of all control related programs

Education and/or Experience:                      

  • High School Diploma or GED;  

  • Five years experience in development, installation, and troubleshooting of PLC, HMI and motor control systems .  

Language Skills:                      

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.  

Mathematical Skills:                      

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.  

Reasoning Ability:                      

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  

Computer Skills:                      

  • Knowledge of and experience working  with  Microsoft Office, MS-DOS, Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP in multi-domain environment.    

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:   

  • Valid Passport book or the ability to obtain one within 3 months of hire.  

 

Other  Knowledge,  Skills and Abilities:                      

  • Specialized training in PLC control and machine control.  

  • Documentation (Instruction, rung, section).   

  • HMI knowledge: object type, screen layouts, animation, alarms, scripting.   

  • Knowledge of NEC codes, NFPA codes, IEC codes, etc.   

  • Proficient  in Schneider Electric  Modicon series of PLCs and I/O interfaces, and the Unity software package (including Vijeo Designer).  

  • Proficient  in Rockwell/Allen Bradley ControlLogix  series of PLCs and I/O interfaces, and the FactoryTalk  Studio 5000 software package (including  RSLogiz and FactoryTalk  View).   

  • Proficient in Wonderware  Suit of software solutions.   

  • Proficient  in AutoCAD Electrical/Product Design Suite Software package.   

  • Ladder logic  and Statement List.   

  • Function Block Diagram .  

  • File Structure, program organization .  

  • Functional requirements specification .  

  • Diagnostic and analytical skills .  

  • Ability to read and understand drawings for electrical controls and mechanical parts .  

  • Work flexible hours to meet project/task deadlines.
