As a member of the Martin’s Family, a Staff Accountant I compiles and maintains records of business transactions and office activities of establishment through account reconciliation, journal entry preparation and bank statement reconciliation.

Summary:  Compiles and maintains records of business transactions and office activities of establishment  through account reconciliation, journal entry preparation and bank statement reconciliation .  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  include the following .   Other duties as assigned. 

  • Assists with period end financial statement closing through activities such as; preparing and posting general journal entries, preparing schedules that tie to the general ledger, and creating supporting work papers and schedules.

  • Runs weekly and period reports and updates files.

  • Reconciles monthly bank statements.

  •  Assists with reviewing, investigating, and correcting errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.

  •  Assists with year-end audits.

  •  Assists Staff Accountants with routine tasks, such as resolving variances and identifying exceptions.

  •  Assists with special projects approved by Accounting Manager.

  • Maintains and organizes files and records in accordance with required federal, state, local and company guidelines.

 

Education and/or Experience:        

  • High School Diploma or GED;  

  • Associates Degree in Accounting with 5+ years of experience ; or  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting .  

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.   

  • Ability to write simple correspondence.    

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

Computer Skills:                      

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet software, Microsoft Word Processing software, and Microsoft PowerPoint .  

Language Skills:                                                        

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

Mathematical Skills:                                                               

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to create and interpret graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability:                                                    

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. 

 

Other  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities                      

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.  

  • Ability to work extended hours as required.   

  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis, with a high degree of accuracy.
