Summary Statement: Under general supervision, this position assists with a variety of tasks related to provision of reference services and the library functions supporting it. These duties may include document and book acquisition, cataloging, bibliographic searches, development and maintenance of information sources and contacts, collection development, posting and maintaining information on an intranet or the Internet, creating periodic information products, and evaluating publications or products for inclusion in the collection.  The incumbent may assist with any one or more of these specific functions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Interfaces with IDA researchers and task groups on a daily basis.  Assists with information and reference retrieval as requested, including participation in research tasks. May assist in the preparation of straightforward summaries and abstracts of source material. Assists with literature searches.
  2. Assists with the development and maintenance of information sources and contacts, including liaisons with professional organizations, government information collecting and disseminating operations, and private data services.
  3. Participates in the development and maintenance of collections.  Helps to determine items for purchase to complement IDA’s mission or to provide useful information; removes items no longer deemed worthy of retention on a routine basis.
  4. Assists in documenting reference transactions in the Library usage database.
  5. May assist Library support staff by providing data necessary to complete their duties, to include cataloging or describing items.  Assists with preparation of billing records of purchases and transactions made for researchers by the Library.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Education: BA/BS in Library Science, related academic discipline, or HS diploma and 3 years of information services field experience.
  • Experience: One or more years’ experience working in an information services environment preferred preferably one specializing in or supporting scientific and technical or military disciplines.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience with database platforms and building structured search strings.
  • Experience using online databases common to Library reference work and information provision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in personal and written interactions with all levels of employees.
  • Experience with Ex Libris Alma and Primo systems is desired.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearance.

We support transparency, equity, and fairness in our compensation program and provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range based on data-driven market analysis for each position. While it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range, a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $59,262-$94,839.  Individual salary within this range will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, unique skills and qualifications, and other relevant factors.
