Summer Recreation Aide Hourly Pay:  $12.00

Days: Monday - Friday

Hours: Varies

Definition:  Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Leader.  Work involves limited decision-making, although employees are expected to exercise good sound judgment in maintaining discipline when controlling the activities of recreation program participants.  Work involves no supervision of others and is supervised directly by a higher-ranking Recreation Department employee.  This work requires weekend, night, and/or some holidays.

 Tasks: 

• Monitors game rooms and other similar activities at a City recreation center.
• Maintains cleanliness of assigned areas.
• Instruct and teach children of all ages.
• Performs related work as required.
• Performs other work as assigned.

 Knowledge, Abilities, Skills and Other Characteristics: 

• Ability to control and discipline the behavior of children of all age groups.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public.
•  Knowledge of sport rules, knowledge of arts, knowledge of games, knowledge of special events.
•            Ability to establish and maintain good working habits with fellow employees and the general public.
•  Ability to work on a varied schedule.

 Qualifications:

• Must be 16 years old or older 
• Applicants with prior related experience preferred.
• Must be able to pass a rigid background investigation including work history, criminal 
  records, driving records and other records deemed necessary. 
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen administered by a City-designated facility.

 Physical Functions:

• Standing for an extended period of time, running or physical exertion.

Working Conditions:

• Indoor or outdoor depending on the sport involved.
