Corrosion Lead

The Corrosion Lead is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining corrosion protection systems to ensure the integrity and safety of pipelines, tanks, and related infrastructure. This role performs advanced technical work in corrosion prevention, provides training and guidance to staff, ensures regulatory compliance, and supports departmental operational goals through inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, and project leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, install, and maintain corrosion protection systems and cathodic protection equipment
  • Conduct annual corrosion surveys, soil surveys, and pipeline interference testing
  • Inspect pipelines and tank coatings for integrity issues and coordinate needed repairs
  • Ensure compliance with federal corrosion control regulations and standards
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for corrosion control equipment
  • Maintain system reliability, equipment, instruments, and mapping resources
  • Train Utilities employees and corrosion technicians, including OQ instruction
  • Assist with budgeting, purchasing tools/equipment, and supporting project planning
  • Prepare technical reports and support safety, cybersecurity, and operational protocols

 

Qualifications:

  • A valid driver's license
  • The ideal candidate will have progressive experience in corrosion assessment and cathodic protection. 
  • Experience in water or gas pipeline construction is preferred, along with proven leadership abilities
  • NACE Corrosion certifications—including CP1 and CP2—are preferred, with certification required within 2 years of hire, based on current level
  • Strong technical expertise
  • Demonstrates effective leadership skills and the ability to guide and support others

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exerts 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or 10-20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
  • Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
