BIW Welding Engineer

Job Summary:

Our client in Troy, MI is looking for a BIW Welding Engineer. This is a contract position.

What You Will Do:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced BIW Welding Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing welding processes within the Body in White department, ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and innovation in the manufacturing of our new vehicle.

Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize safety above all to protect our team members, partners, and customers.
  • Develop and implement welding schedules, processes for BIW manufacturing process (stations), ensuring compliance with quality and efficiency standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand BIW design requirements and provide expertise on welding feasibility and optimization.
  • Conduct welding process evaluations, troubleshoot issues, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with the robotics engineering team to integrate welding processes with robotic systems, including Spot Resistance Welding, GMAW welding, and Laser Welding.
  • Provide technical support to production teams, addressing welding-related challenges and ensuring smooth production flow.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers to source, evaluate, and implement cutting-edge welding technologies.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies in welding, incorporating innovative solutions to enhance production efficiency.

What You Will Need:

Basics:

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a Welding Engineer in a manufacturing environment, with a focus on Body in White processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of various welding processes, including Spot Resistance Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Laser Welding.
  • Experience in welding process optimization, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on precision and quality in welding processes.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Welding Engineer in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the automotive industry.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.
