Purpose/Scope:

This position supports process leaders by executing continuous improvement activities and projects to achieve a dramatically improved future state, and for developing and providing new and existing production personnel with the training they require, including experience with hands-on application, and a facilitated integration into the business in a manner that improves Company Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost performance. Leads training and onboarding programs and processes.  Drives a Continuous Improvement culture by training, coaching and mentoring others in innovating processes for daily improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve all levels of the organization as a Lean Enterprise topical guide and internal consultant
  • Train and coaches all organizational levels in the principles, tools, and practices of Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI)
  • Facilitate new hire orientation and onboarding events and activities for new and existing production employees
  • Ensure the proper utilization of Training Within Industry Job Instruction (TWI-JI) methods for all skills training
  • Develop and maintain Job Breakdown and Standard Work documents
  • Serve as liaison between new hires and supervisors to resolve issues (e.g. knowledge and skills gaps, conflicts)
  • Develop assessment tools to determine an employee’s skill level; use those tools to evaluate employees’ skill and knowledge; maintain skill-based system
  • Encourage employees to expand knowledge and skills; direct to appropriate resources as needed
  • Develop and maintain all necessary training material, equipment, and supplies
  • Ensure the completion of all preparation work necessary to support successful Kaizen events, problem solving or other projects such as scheduling process downtime and securing support of other functions such as Maintenance and IT
  • Deliver appropriate training for Kaizen events, problem solving and other project teams that ensure team members have the knowledge required for project success
  • Provide Kaizen event and project follow-up to ensure achievement and sustainment of the required results
  • Perform ongoing audits to ensure best practice implementation, to drive standardization of practice across the enterprise, and to find opportunities for improvement
  • Act as a resource for new hires, answering questions and providing performance feedback
  • Develop other personnel to provide skills training throughout our processes

Basic Qualifications:

  • Two years of Lean operations experience
  • High school diploma or GED

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge and experience operating with Lean, Six Sigma and other Continuous Improvement principles and methods through normal operations, Kaizen events, and projects
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with team members, peers, and management at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and lead others. Strong team facilitation and leadership skills; able to address conflicts and obstacles and guide teams to achieve desired results
  • Good comprehension of the entire business value stream from customer to supplier
  • Effective communicator, able to speak to all audiences throughout the organization, understanding the various needs of audience members, and tailoring the message to address their concerns; strong writing skills
  • Ability to transform a project vision into a defined scope and get results while working with available resources and timeline requirements; knowledge of project management fundamentals and experience leading projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years precast concrete production experience
  • 2-3 years of Lean implementation experience in a process or high-volume job shop manufacturing environment
  • Certifications in adult learning / education and instructional design
  • OSHA 10 hour & 30 hour certification
  • BA/BS in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, Business, or related fields
  • Bilingual

Physical Requirements:

  • Travel approximately 25% of the time
  • Work with all shift schedules (24/7 operations)
  • Ability to spend long durations standing/walking in a manufacturing environment with steep ladders and catwalks.
  • Office: Move 25lbs (not for all jobs, reasonable accommodations will be made), work with a computer for extended periods of time
  • Plant/Yard: Move minimum of 50lbs., spatial awareness/depth perception, walk, climb, bend at the waist, reach, forceful use of hand tools, vocal projection

Work Environment:

  • >50% of time will be spent in a loud, dusty manufacturing environment with wide variations in ambient conditions. The remainder will be spent in an office environment.
  • Office: Quiet with some ambient noise, climate controlled, fluorescent lighting
  • Plant/Yard: All types of weather conditions (year-round, Mid-west and Northeast), dirt/dust, noise from heavy machinery/vehicles, vibrations from machinery and vehicles, loud noises, little to no climate control, varying amounts of light, stairs, narrow walkways
