The Corporate Materials Engineer is responsible for the development and processing of concrete formulations that satisfy business objectives including requirements for field performance, manufacturability and cost. This role is a key resource for concrete materials, providing a wide range of technical support, working with outside suppliers, technical resources, certifying bodies and customers, and utilizing a broad base of knowledge in order to support product development, certification, raw material supply, manufacturing and field processes.
Systematically develops and manages mix designs that optimize quality and cost performance
Designs and implements processes to methodically and proactively adjust mix based on operating results, changes in, or variation in materials as well as operating conditions
Participates in, and leads efforts to continuously improve all dimensions of mix performance
Collaborates with QA on the development of inbound material specifications and qualification processes to insure that supplied materials meet Fabcon’s needs
Collaborates with QA on the development and implementation of in-process specifications and control processes to insure that our process yields acceptable results
Mentors and teaches personnel throughout the organization regarding product design, processing and problem-solving related to concrete materials and mixes
Leads root cause problem-solving efforts regarding mix-related problems
Serves as a key technical resource in the development of new products and processes
Collaborates with vendor sales and technical professionals, laboratories, universities and professional societies
BS in Engineering or related field
Five (5) plus years of experience in manufacturing, construction or similar
Effective communicator; able to speak to all audiences inside and outside the organization, understanding the various needs of audience members, and tailoring the message to address their concerns; strong writing skills
Ability to develop strong working relationships internally and externally and at all levels
Proficient in Microsoft Office as well as systems employed in the manufacturing processes
Ability to conduct multivariable Design of Experiments (DOE)
PCI Level 3 Certification
Thorough knowledge of mix design, problem solving and Fabcon processes
Five (5) plus years of experience in pre-cast or similar industry
Knowledge of Statistical Process Control techniques
Ability to travel approximately 30%
Office: Move 25lbs (not for all jobs, reasonable accommodations will be made), work with a computer for extended periods of time
Plant/Yard: Move minimum of 50lbs., spatial awareness/depth perception, walk, climb, bend at the waist, reach, forceful use of hand tools, vocal projection
Office: Quiet with some ambient noise, climate controlled, fluorescent lighting
Plant/Yard: All types of weather conditions (year-round, Mid-west and Northeast), dirt/dust, noise from heavy machinery/vehicles, vibrations from machinery and vehicles, loud noises, little to no climate control, varying amounts of light, stairs, narrow walkways
