The W2E Business Unit Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the W2E (Work to Existing) business segment which offers turn-key services to modify, expand, repair, and maintain concrete buildings throughout North America. The W2E Business Unit Manager ensures key performance metrics are met or exceeded in all areas.  The position manages dedicated W2E: Sales, Project Management, and Field personnel, responsible for providing oversight for all marketing and business development activities, as well as monitoring operations and project cost control.  The Business Unit Manager has complete profit and loss responsibility for annual sales volumes up to (and expected to grow beyond) $10m.  The successful candidate will be adept at identifying, developing, and driving strategic initiatives throughout the larger organization while continually adapting the vision and direction of the W2E Business Unit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee business development activities.  Identify new opportunities within the marketplace and how to best leverage existing Fabcon relationships into growth for Business Unit.
  • Develop and communicate sales expectations to W2E sales team.
  • Track and assign all incoming sales leads.
  • Provide oversight to sales & estimating process including development of costs and pricing for new products & services.
  • Develop marketing strategies and activities including development of promotional materials, advertising channels, and creating and managing all social media content.
  • Manage W2E Project Management group ensuring all projects are completed on time, on budget, and meet internal and external customer requirements.
  • Coordinate with other department heads to align needs of Business Unit with other departments such as drafting/engineering, contracts administration, and finance.
  • Develop, monitor, and ensure compliance with all Business Unit processes and procedures.
  • Scope and oversee development of all reporting needs.
  • Oversee all administrative functions within the Business Unit and reporting at the director and officer levels.
  • Responsible for all hiring of all Business Unit staff.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor all strategic initiatives within Business Unit.
  • Monitor all Sales & Operation KPI’s ensuring goals are met.
  • Coach and mentor all Business Unit staff on technical proficiency and long-term professional development.
  • Monitor and manage financial performance of Business Unit with full profit & loss responsibility.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in operations, preferably construction management.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience managing cross-functional teams/staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership, organizational and decision-making skills, ability to influence and motivate others.
  • Ability to use key business metrics for strategic decision making.
  • Collaborative problem solving and the ability to drive initiatives through an organization.
  • Customer service focus with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • An understanding of construction with the ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with problem solving and managing multiple projects continually.
  • Ability to manage contractors, vendors, and suppliers as well as coordinate all functions of construction projects and strategic initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience at the Project Executive level.
  • MBA or equivalent work experience.
  • Strategic business thinking combined with technical engineering leadership.
  • Proficient in SharePoint development.
  • Experience in the construction services industry.
  • Experienced with labor relations.
  • Experienced with business development.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel 40% of the time.
  • Office: Move 25lbs. (not for all jobs, reasonable accommodations will be made), work with a computer for extended periods of time.

Work Environment:


Normal office working environment and visits to project sites and manufacturing facilities as necessary.


  • Office: Quiet with some ambient noise, climate controlled, fluorescent lighting.
  • Field: All types of weather conditions (year-round, Mid-west and Northeast), dirt/dust, noise from heavy machinery/vehicles.
  • Plant/Yard: All types of weather conditions (year-round, Mid-west and Northeast), dirt/dust, noise from heavy machinery/vehicles, vibrations from machinery and vehicles, loud noises, little to no climate control, varying amounts of light, stairs, narrow walkways.
