A temporary research scientist position has become available within the Emissions Control Research Department at Johnson Matthey Technology Centre in Sonning Common, UK. The purpose of the role is to conduct scientific research on gasoline emission control catalysts to improve fundamental understanding and catalyst performance, with the aim of designing catalysts to provide options for improved pollutant control.

Key responsibilities:

  • Undertaking research activities on catalysts to improve fundamental understanding and catalyst performance
  • Preparing catalysts on a small scale using a range of catalyst preparation methods
  • Conducting reactor testing of catalysts to determine activity and stability performance
  • Performing analysis of catalyst materials using a range of available characterisation techniques to elucidate structure – performance relationships
  • Collaboration with business unit colleagues to enable technology transfer of research concepts to development
  • Analysing, collating and interpreting data
  • Communicating results to colleagues via reports and presentation
  • Conducting literature studies and collaborating with colleagues to develop understanding of relevant catalytic materials and application requirements
  • Complying with all local EHS requirements
  • Maintaining and encouraging a high standard of housekeeping in the laboratory areas

Are you the ideal candidate?  

You will have:

  • Masters or PhD in Chemistry, Materials or Chemical Engineering
  • Relevant experience in catalyst preparation, characterisation or testing
  • Experience in emissions control catalysis is desirable with a background in heterogeneous catalysis is highly advantageous
  • Strong mathematical and complex data analysis skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with varied audiences effectively
  • Adaptable with high attention to detail.
