As the Hazardous Waste & Logistics Specialist you will manage the catalyst reprocessing service; ensuring that all waste movements are completed in compliance with the appropriate international/European waste regulations.

Your goal / purpose will be to work with the competent authorities, logistics companies and third-party reprocessing facilities to ensure that spent catalysts/absorbents are dealt with sustainably at end of life in accordance with the appropriate regulations.

We are looking to develop and nurture the successful candidate into this position, by providing full training across a number of areas related to this role.

Efficient Natural Resources is one of our Sectors, within Johnson Matthey plc with revenues of circa £1 billion (circa £7 billion including precious metal value acquired and traded) and operations worldwide. With the rise of both population figures and consumer expectations, thoughts are turning to how we can make more of the resources we have available.  Our Efficient Natural Resources sector helps customers to achieve greater efficiency and optimal yields in the use of these natural resources.  Through recycling capabilities, we help the world use resources efficiently and protect the environment.

Our business serves the oil, gas, commodity chemicals, petrochemicals, and fine chemicals industries. We pride ourselves on our technical expertise and the relationships we foster with our customers are built from the appreciation of the knowledge base we can bring to support their business.

 

Your responsibilities:

  • Management of all waste uplifts; working with logistics providers to identify routing, completing travel pack information, movement tracking forms, dangerous goods notes and collection notes
  • Providing advice to customers and account managers around hazardous waste reprocessing options
  • Act as main point of contact with competent authorities and environment agencies to ensure waste movements proceed smoothly and compliantly
  • Arranging customer samples to ensure suitable safety documentation is available for the shipping/reprocessing
  • Preparation, submission, and expedition of each Transfrontier Shipment of Waste Notification (TFS), ensuring all international waste regulations are adhered to
  • Collation of all costs relating to each shipment, reconciliation of the metal credits and allocation to the correct cost centre, as well as working with JM finance team to obtain the relevant bank guarantees to support the TFS notification

 

Requirements for the role:

  • Experience in shipping and logistics, ideally hazardous materials
  • Experience working with vendors/third parties/customers
  • Experience in SAP and MS Office
  • Strong planning and organising skills, as well as attention to detail
  • An understanding of Transfrontier Shipment of Waste (TFS) would be beneficial
  • An understanding of global waste movement regulations would be desirable
  • Willingness to learn new skills and knowledge in the area of waste management
  • Strong interest in sustainability and circular economy
