SYSTEM ANALYST

Reports To: Manager of System Operations & Reliability

Supervises: No Supervisory Responsibilities

Starting Rate: $38.60 negotiable based on experience

Pre-requisites

Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Electrical or electronics technology related field of study preferred. 

Experience: Utility experience preferred. Experience may be substituted for educational requirement with significant experience related to coding and data analytics.

 Skills/Abilities:

  • Comprehensive ability to perform personal computer and workstations tasks utilizing programs which operate in Windows environment.
  • Comprehensive use of Microsoft applications (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint) on Windows based computer systems to include electronic spreadsheets, word processing programs, and database management.
  • Working knowledge in Python, R, SQL, and other database technologies.
  • Knowledge of Power BI or other data visualization software including Tableau.
  • Technical writing and comprehension skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, with a clear speaking voice fluent in English.
  • Ability to design and maintain technical manuals, system files, procedures, documentation and databases.
  • Competent in coordinating with other employees and possesses the ability to work effectively independently or as a team.
  • Must be able to handle a variety of people and temperaments under differing circumstances.
  • Must be able to manage multiple responsibilities at once by prioritizing each task while keeping track of all other responsibilities.
  • Strong Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Self-starter with good analytical and process skills

Typical Responsibilities Include

Utilizes mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform high volumes of complex data into advanced analytic solutions. Responsible for gathering requirements and turning those requirements into actionable insights in the form of reports/data visualizations and reporting tools. The work assignments will be varied and frequently require interpretation and independent determination of the appropriate courses of action. This includes evaluating interrelationships between existing systems and recommending solutions. 

  • Supports the daily operation and functions of the System Operations Center.
  • Implements, designs, updates, and maintains all operating procedures.
  • Works closely with Engineering, System Operations, Control Systems, and Reliability to maintain functional SCADA data, reporting, dashboards, and controls for reliable 24/7 operation.
  • Analyze historical SCADA, OMS, and logs for quality control and process improvement.
  • Analyze load-management data to maximize system efficiency.
  • Assists system engineers, metering department, and consumer accounting department to maintain reliable operation of the cooperative’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system.
  • Compile, sort, and analyze data to display findings for reporting, decision making, awareness and strategic leadership direction.
  • Monitor and maintain systems to ensure data sets are usable and readily available when needed.
  • Create and maintain new systems as well as investigate new technologies to determine their potential benefit.
  • Communicates and coordinates with South Texas Electric Cooperative to resolve mutual problems.
  • Provides a variety of administrative and clerical duties including the preparation of reports, maintenance logs and completion of forms.
  • Observes all applicable safety rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to work during emergency conditions.
  • Conduct must reflect a professional image when in contact with members, the general public, and other MEC employees.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by management.

  • Ability to perform the essential job functions safely and successfully consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and cooperative standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance.
  • Must be able to communicate with others in person and on the telephone clearly and courteously.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Occasionally requires driving a vehicle and traveling alone.
