Coordinates all financial aspects of patient's hospitalization, including pre admission financial screening, verification of insurance coverage, financial counseling with patients having limited and/or no insurance coverage, collection of necessary admission deposits, and handling of written or verbal inquiries regarding patient accounts. Reports to Director of Patient Access Services.
Interprets and explains to patients and their families charges, services and hospital policy regarding payment of bills.
Requests cash deposits from all Inpatients having limited (less than 60% and/or deductible greater than $2500) insurance or no insurance coverage. Deposit requests will be communicated to the patient/guarantor within 48 hours of admission and will be documented in the patient account notes. Waiver of cash deposits must be approved by Administrator or his designee.
Refers potential bad debt and charity accounts to Collection Manager.
Handles written and/or verbal inquiries from third party payors.
Basic college courses are required and a college degree is preferred. Minimum of 2 years related financial experience in a similar setting. Requires verbal and written communication skill and ability to work with minimal supervision. This position has been determined to have no risk of occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
