The Opportunity

The Senior Events Producer serves as a key member of the Community Engagement Team, implementing a robust portfolio of event experiences that elevates CPM brands, NPR, podcasting and audio storytelling in the Chicagoland area. The Senior Events Producer plans, executes, and implements all event components for programs in their portfolio including ideation and conceptualization, talent and venue booking, vendor management, sponsor activations, staffing and volunteer management, and event set-up and teardown. The Senior Events Producer serves as a liaison to Corporate Sponsorship, Membership and Development teams, leveraging event opportunities to engage their respective clients/constituencies. The Senior Events Producer works collaboratively with external partner organization to secure CPM journalists as event moderators and in the production of co-presented partnership events that extend CPM visibility. This role will also proactively work with CPM’s Marketing team to coordinate event marketing and promotions to develop robust audiences for events in their portfolio.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages 40+ projects annually from conception through logistical execution including the timely delivery of all deadlines and materials.
  • Ensures timely project development and execution.
  • Works with Director of Community Engagement to establish standardized workflows, metrics tracking, and event production procedures.
  • Works collaboratively across all departments and team to strategize, lead, implement and manage all event timelines and deliverables in their portfolio.
  • Serves as an event liaison to internal stakeholders and/or key decision makers.
  • Tracks key event metrics and provides timely event recaps to internal stakeholders.
  • Manages project teams, including internal staff, part-time employees, contractors and interns to ensure deadlines are achieved.
  • Manages onsite event staff including volunteers in the execution of their duties.
  • Monitors event industry trends and makes recommendations to position CPM events as a lead convener of thought leadership in the Chicagoland region.
  • Collaborates on marketing and promotional activities to meet audience development goals.
  • Works collaboratively with Corporate Sponsorship, Membership and Development teams.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communications, web design, or related field.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in event production, marketing, and promotions experience.
  • Demonstrated track record in program development and project management.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships with key internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues across various functional areas.
  • Ability to work simultaneously on short and long-term projects.
  • Proven team leader with results-oriented focus.
  • Excellent written/oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Effective multi-tasker with exceptional time management skills.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours.

Due to current COVID restrictions, you must be able to work remotely at your own designated location with Internet access and you must be willing and able to work at our Navy Pier offices, if needed. Right now, most of our staff is working remotely.
