Job Summary


The SVP and Corporate Chief Actuary is responsible for all actuarial functions of Amerihealth Caritas Family of Companies (ACFC). This includes creation and execution of actuarial strategies, capabilities and competencies (including people, processes and tools) to support sustained performance and growth of the Company.  They will also be directly responsible for the actuarial components of rate advocacy, medical cost trend analysis, claim reserve calculation and Enterprise Business Planning. This includes both internal teams and any external resources engaged in these functions. 


The SVP must be a “student of the game” and capable of building and maintaining a best in class actuarial function. This includes outstanding vision, strategy creation, and execution with a high performing team using state-of-the art approaches. It also includes representing the Company as a thought leader for the subject matter and advocacy to support the Company’s policy positions. Serves as the key advisor to and reports to the EVP & Chief Financial Officer (CFO). 


•    Serves as an advisor to other leaders in the Company, generally VPs and above. 
•    Provides oversight and guidance to all LOBs as it relates to rate negotiations/renewals with respective States. Close integration with the Medical Cost Management functions of the Company will be of critical importance. 
•    Prepares and reviews departmental operating budgets. 
•    Works with other departments in analyzing costs and utilization data to aid in developing strategies and financial implications of health care delivery systems, specifically including value based payment arrangements. 
•    Responsible for the establishment and maintenance of accounts in accordance with the organization's goals, thereby influencing its solvency.
•    Responsible for developing the organization's premium rate structure through regular and systematic analysis and forecasting of financial/statistical data which is actuarially sound, competitive in the marketplace, and provides income in accordance with organizational goals and objectives. 
•    Leads teams to obtain organizational results and works in partnership with others to achieve business results. Communicates corporate strategy and vision, performance expectations.


Education/Experience


•    Bachelor’s Degree required and preferably in mathematics, actuarial science or risk management.
•    Master’s Degree or equivalent work experience required.
•    Proven credentials such as FSA and/or RHU required.
•    High level competence with actuarial methodologies required.
•    Proven ability to oversee/manage projects to successfully conclusion as well as ability to identify and implement best practices and methods.
•    Advanced analytical skills required and well-versed in contemporary actuarial practices.
•    Self-motivated, highly organized and detail-oriented as well as above average problem solving, analytical and verbal and written communication skills are required. Must be a “student of the game” and capable of providing thought leadership in the industry and representing the Company in support of various policy positions at the State and Federal level. 
•    Must have management experience in a complex entity which operates in numerous, different regulatory jurisdictions at substantial scale.
