Description

The Support Specialist Help Desk will possess and apply expertise on multiple complex work assignments. Assignments may be broad in nature, requiring originality and innovation in determining how to accomplish tasks. Operates with appreciable latitude in developing methodology and presenting solutions to problems. Contributes to deliverables and performance metrics where applicable. Duties include but not limited to:

• Provide technical assistance to computer users
• Answer questions or resolve computer problems for clients in person, or via telephone or electronically
• Account management (establish user accounts, reset passwords)
• System level administration and troubleshooting
• Assist users with understanding software and hardware capabilities
• Continuous performance monitoring to ensure operational capability
• Assist in maintaining standard operating procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Report any discrepancies to supervisor


Required Skills and Experience

• A HS diploma with a minimum of four (4) years related experience or AS degree with two-plus years’ experience or bachelor’s degree is preferred
• Strong problem-solving skills; capable of analyzing and resolving hardware and operating system problems
• Excellent verbal and written communications with all levels of management for planning and organizing site management projects
• Strong detail-oriented skills; able to multi-task and change priorities quickly
• Able to meet precise standards
• Strong team player
• Ability to work designated schedule, as well as maintain attendance and punctuality
• Ability to convey complex technical information in an easily understood manner


Desired Skills and Experience

• Experience in C/Fortran programming is preferred
• Experience in parallel programming with MPI and OpenMP is preferred
• Compiling and debugging programs is preferred
• General knowledge of high-performance computers is preferred
• Extensive knowledge in troubleshooting data processing processes and procedures
• Experience in training and providing technical assistance to end-users
• Experience with Linux operating systems


Required Clearance

Must currently possess an active DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance.
