JOB TITLE: Audiologist

SUPERVISOR: Branch Manager

HOURS PER WEEK: 40hrs (Monday-Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm)/Exempt

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Administers and interprets diagnostic audiologic and vestibular tests to allow differentiation among types of hearing and balance disorders. Consults with physicians regarding test results and recommendations. Provides recommendations for effective management of hearing loss and aural rehabilitation, including selection and fitting of hearing aids and/or assistive devices, follow-up support, and device troubleshooting.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (* Essential Functions) 

CLINICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: TPC123
1.    Administer audiological evaluations to collect information on type and degree of hearing loss, using specialized instruments and equipment.*
2.    Evaluate diagnostic findings to determine diagnoses and courses of treatment.*
3.    Use medical diagnostic techniques within the scope of an Audiologist.*
4.    Document findings and progress within the patient’s electronic medical record and report to the appropriate personnel.*
5.    Adhere to established security and patient privacy guidelines when disclosing patient information.*
6.    Conduct candidacy evaluations and provide fitting and follow-up services for patients seeking implantable hearing devices (Currently limited to the bone anchored hearing aid – BAHA).*
7.    Identify the needs of communication-impaired persons.*
8.    Counsel and instruct patients in techniques to effectively manage hearing impairment, referring patients for additional medical or educational services as needed.*
9.    Plan and conduct treatment programs for hearing impaired patients, consulting with physicians, nurses, psychologists, and other health care personnel as necessary.*
10.    Recommend and fit earmolds, hearing aids, and assistive devices according to patients' needs and nature of impairment, providing and documenting appropriate follow-up support.*
11.    Counsel patients regarding hearing conservation and dispense hearing protection devices as appropriate.*
12.    Administer videonystagmography testing. Analyze results and report findings to the requesting physician.
13.    Use effective interpersonal communication techniques.*
14.    Update patient medications and allergy information using electronic medical record system.*
15.    Participate in conferences or training to update or share knowledge of topics relating to auditory or vestibular disorders and/or treatment methods.*
16.    Communicate technical information regarding hearing or balance related topics to physicians and other professionals.*

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Determine and maintain current pricing for hearing related DME for all relevant vendors.*
2.    Coordinate regular software updates with IS for all hearing aid manufacturers.*
3.    Schedule training with appropriate vendor representatives to stay current with new devices.*
4.    Monitor function of all test equipment, troubleshoot problems, and coordinate service as needed.*
5.    Monitor and schedule annual calibration of test equipment.*
6.    Coordinate procurement of DME and clinic supplies with purchasing department.*
7.    Order department supplies (or delegate) as needed.*
8.    Manage VNG database to ensure inclusion of all tests in EMR while maintaining sufficient computer memory to run tests efficiently.
9.    Train staff providing support to audiology.*
10.    Demonstrate proficient use of the clinic’s electronic medical record system.*
11.    Consult with billing department regarding changes/updates in Audiology billing and coding.*
12.    Update protocols for audiological and vestibular testing to reflect current standards of practice.* 

EQUIPMENT USED:
Audiological test equipment
Videonystagmography test equipment
Hearing aid programming and test equipment
Office equipment such as computer, copier, fax machine etc.

REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree or higher in Audiology (Au.D. preferred)
Current Oregon state license in Audiology
Must have a National Provider Identifier (NPI) or obtain an NPI prior to start date
Current CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (within 6 months of hire)
Proficient in diagnostic evaluation of hearing, prevention, habilitation and rehabilitation services for auditory disorders
Computer literate and proficient in basic PC programs
Demonstrates openness to creative and innovative approaches to providing service

PREFERENCES:
Previous post-licensure experience in the field of audiology
Bilingual (Spanish/English)
Certificate of clinical competency in Audiology
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
