JOB TITLE: Urology RN

SUPERVISOR: Nursing Supervisor

HOURS PER WEEK: 40hrs/Non-Exempt (Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm - Must be willing to travel to the Downtown clinic once a week)

DEPARTMENT: Nursing Services 

HIRING BONUS: $1,000 after 90 days 

The following information is designed to outline the essential functions and position requirements of this job. It does not identify all tasks that may be expected, nor address the performance standards that must be maintained. 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Deliver evidence-based, professional nursing care to enhance the comfort and well-being of urology patients. This includes preparing equipment, instruments and assisting the physician during examination and treatment. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS) 
1.    Patient assessment and preparation for exam, procedure and/or treatment. 
2.    Assists the physician during procedures and exams specific to the urology department such as cystoscopy, vasectomy, bladder biopsy, prostate biopsy, among others. *
3.    Perform diverse aspects of catheter-related patient care, including catheter insertion (simple and complex), Foley and suprapubic catheter changes, trouble shooting, flushing, and provide patient instruction and supply set-up related to self-catheterization. *
4.    autonomously prepare patient and conduct Urodynamic testing. *
5.    Autonomously performs an array of nursing visits including post-op visits, various bladder installations, bladder irrigation, catheter management, percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation, bladder scans, various injections, dressing changes, etc. *
6.    Provide counseling and education to patients on wellness and function for urologic conditions. 
7.    triage patients identifying healthcare intervention needs for urological issues. Determines the suitable disposition and/or follow up actions accordingly. 
8.    Provide wound care, dressing changes, suture or staple removal as directed by physician. *
9.    Maintain narcotic records and policies as directed by TPC policy. 
10.    Assist with pre-authorization and coordination of surgeries and diagnostic procedures in the clinic, hospital, or day surgery setting.
11.    Manage the desk including scheduling appointments, organizing schedules, test scheduling and reporting, referrals, and hospital charges. 
12.    Monitor all supplies and par levels for Urology related items.
13.    Perform proper preparation and disposition of laboratory specimens, cleaning and preparing instruments and equipment for sterilization, cleaning exam rooms and nursing station; daily/weekly logbook checks such as Cidex, eyewash or refrigerator temperature; other general department and patient management. *
14.    Follow The Portland Clinic (TPC) guidelines for documentation, including use of forms and computer data entry using Electronic Health Record (EHR). *
15.    Always comply with HIPAA regulations. *
16.    Follow OSHA and TPC guidelines and policies for the prevention of the spread of bloodborne pathogens, including maintaining a clean work environment, use of safety and personal protective equipment and engineering controls. *
17.    Maintain safety standards such as use of patient safety equipment, knowledge of emergency procedures, use of handrails on stairs, body mechanics and ergonomics. *
18.    Participate in code and triage team activities, maintain current CPR card. Maintain current ACLS or PALS if appropriate.
19.    Attend nursing meetings and in-services.
20.    Participate in certain committees to represent the nursing staff.
21.    Participate as a team member and assist others as needed. Work under the minimal supervision of Physicians and Nurse Practitioners. *
22.    Provide a leadership and supervisory role for LPN’s, MA’s and non-licensed personnel as appropriate. *
23.    Participate as an active care team member in a patient-centered medical home.
24.    Assist/float to other departments as needed. *
25.    Employees will not be discourteous or disrespectful to a customer or any member of the public while in the course and scope of company business. *
26.    Work in a cooperative manner with management/supervision, coworkers, customers, and vendors. 
27.    Abide by company policies. *
28.    Other duties as assigned.
29.    Maintain regular work attendance and punctuality. * 

EQUIPMENT USED: Special medical equipment such as cystoscopes, catheters, surgical instruments, etc. Training will be provided if needed. 

REQUIREMENTS: 
RN graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Valid Oregon Nursing License
CPR certification 

PREFERENCES: 
Previous clinic and/or hospital experience
Previous urology experience
Basic understanding of infection control
Understanding of the legalities of charting and telephone conversations

Ability to accept responsibility and use initiative to proceed with necessary tasks without direct supervision
