JOB TITLE: Clinical Nurse Educator

SUPERVISOR: Director of Nursing

HOURS PER WEEK: 40hrs (M-F 8:00am-5:00pm)/Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Administration

HIRING BONUS: $1,000 after 90 days

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To oversee the quality improvement efforts of The Portland Clinic. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS) TPC123
1.    Ensures educational activities are congruent with TPC’s mission and strategic plan. *
2.    Provides an appropriate climate for learning, and facilitates the learning process by developing, planning, and presenting educational activities and directly or indirectly fostering the development of competence in the clinical staff. *
3.    Assists Branch Managers and Supervisor in identifying department learning needs and effective learning activities/strategies required to meet those needs. *
4.    Provides professional growth and development opportunities for clinical staff. *
5.    Assists in coordinating education and training for new services, equipment and supplies in clinical areas. *
6.    Provides guidance and support to branches regarding County, State and Federal Infection Control and prevention programs. *
7.    Assists in defining, maintaining, and interpreting standards of nursing practice related to ambulatory care. *
8.    Provides recommendations in facilitating the compliance of Oregon State regulations and scope of practice for MA, LPN, and RN, etc. roles in ambulatory clinical setting. *
9.    Supports the initiatives of the Quality Management Committee and partners with the Quality Manager to identify quality measures and initiatives to improve patient outcomes. *
10.    Assists with clinical policy review, revision, and compliance. *
11.    Assists department with compliance to product recalls. *
12.    Assist Department Chairs and Managers with quality measures as applicable.
13.    Provides recommendations and training as needed to be in compliance with Oregon State laws and recommended CDC guidelines for safe clinical practices regarding vaccination storage and administration in conjunction with the vaccine coordinator *
14.    Serves as a resource and facilitator, in conjunction with the managers, to identify clinical improvement opportunities and subsequent clinical process and workflow improvements.
15.    Serves as a resource for Epic/EMR utilization for clinical staff training, partnering with the IS department. *
16.    Performs clinical nursing functions as assigned to include intermittent backup (employee health) or temporary clinic nursing coverage for any organizational nursing role.
17.    Provides input to Lead and Manager/Supervisor for employees with clinical performance concerns to be included in the employee’s focal review.
18.    Attends and actively participates in Department meetings as needed, as well as various other meetings as requested, including provider meetings.
19.    Actively participates in annual Clinic Employee vaccination Clinics and tracking in conjunction with Employee Health Nurse/Vaccine coordinator. 
20.    Works closely with branch leadership for protocol development and Clinical Policy/Procedure development, review, revision, and monitoring. *
21.    Keeps current with emerging best practices in ambulatory care as it pertains to support staff’s clinical practices. *
22.    Partners with the Quality department for analysis of clinical activities that has resulted in patient concerns. Identify trends that negatively impact the clinical care of our patients.
23.    Serve as a mentor for new clinical staff.
24.    Attend work regularly as scheduled*
25.    Travel to all clinical sites. *
26.    Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
Current Oregon state RN licensure
BSN strongly preferred
Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider BLS CPR certification
Minimum of 5 years nursing experience
Clinical education and/or precepting experience
Clinical educator experience preferred
Ambulatory Nursing preferred.
Ability to travel to all clinic sites

PREFERRENCES:
Able to consistently demonstrate essential clinical competencies for this role and license/certification
Thorough knowledge and understanding of protocol, procedures, and standards of patient care.
Ability to assess educational needs and design and develop responsible curricula.
Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
Ability to travel between multiple locations.
Experience with Epic preferred but not required.
Experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred. 
Experience in leading quality and safety initiatives.
Ability to manage multiple projects in varying stages of development.
