Primary Purpose of the Job
Defines, prioritizes, and maintains the product backlog for one or more development teams. Serves as the voice of the client and the primary link between business stakeholders and the development team, ensuring that the products/solutions being built deliver maximum value and desired business outcomes. This is a highly collaborative role that requires strong communication, organizational, and decision-making skills, as well as a deep understanding of agile methodologies and development processes.

Does not directly supervise team members.
Essential Duties
- Understand and internalize the product vision, strategy, and roadmap. Translate this into a clear and actionable product backlog for the development team.
- Own and maintain the product backlog, including defining user stories, prioritizing them based on business value, technical feasibility, and user needs, and ensuring they are clearly articulated and understood by the development team.
- Collaborate with stakeholders (including users, business analysts, marketing, sales, and client support) to gather requirements and translate them into well-defined user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
- Provide clear and consistent communication with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on product vision, strategy, roadmap, and priorities. Deliver product plans, progress status, and release details on a scheduled basis.
- Continuously prioritize the product backlog to ensure the development team is working on the most valuable items first, balancing short-term needs with long-term goals.
- Define and ensure that acceptance criteria for user stories are clear, concise, and testable. Verify that completed work meets the criteria.
- Stay informed about market trends, competitor activities, user needs, and align with business goals through research and analysis to inform product decisions.
- Collect user/stakeholder feedback, analytics, and usability testing for consistent improvement of the product offering. Champion the client/internal user experience throughout the product & development lifecycle.
- Identify and communicate potential risks and dependencies that may impact the product backlog and delivery. Drive immediate resolution of blockers and ambiguities by making timely decisions on requirements.
- Stay informed of current policies and procedures.
- Continued professional development through ongoing training and education.

Required Skills
- Strong understanding of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, etc.) and their practical application.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex requirements into clear and actionable user stories.
- Ability to prioritize effectively and make tough decisions based on data and business value.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with stakeholders and team members.
- Proficiency in using product backlog management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello).
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience (typically 2+ years) as a Product Owner or in a similar product-facing role.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams and understanding of the product development lifecycle.
- Exposure to market research, competitive analysis, or user research a plus.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Prolonged periods of sitting and standing at a desk and while working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Regular interaction with other team members, including spontaneous and planned video meetings.
- Ability to effectively perform responsibilities under occasionally stressful situations, including meeting daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and/or annual standards and workload expectations.
- Ability to work any shift and required overtime based on business needs.
