SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Manager-Employer Compliance, this position is responsible for completing employer compliance reviews through remote work or rare on-site visits to the employers’ Payroll office, according to established compliance programs, with the purpose of determining that all eligible employees and only eligible employees are enrolled, and that for eligible employees, pensionable compensation is reported correctly in accordance with the Illinois Pension Code.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete the employer compliance work program of IMRF Employers, including payroll, enrollment records, and selected financial reports.
  • Ensure work papers are adequately documented, and compliance evidence is sufficient.
  • Gather data during compliance review through a variety of methods including interaction with employer personnel, review of documents received, internet research, etc.
  • Prepare supporting work papers and written correspondence for the work completed and provide a report to the Senior Employer Compliance Associate or the Manager – Employer Compliance, notating any exceptions uncovered, meeting time and quality standards of the unit.
  • Complete follow-up on compliance recommendations to validate the implementation of corrective plans.
  • Stay current on professional and industry developments and best practices through continuing education training. Certified staff should follow CPE requirements of their respective certifications (e.g., 40 hours).
  • Other duties as assigned within the department.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is preferred.
    PLUS
  • Two years related compliance experience.
    In lieu of compliance experience, two years of IMRF experience (in Internal Audit, Finance, Benefits, and/or Member/Field Services) may be substituted.

·         Must have proven expertise in Excel and Word.

  • Must possess strong communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise and well-written reports and correspondence. Must be able to work independently.

  • This position will be housed in our Oak Brook office.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, management, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or the Board of Trustees.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, and factor analysis.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Salary and Benefits

The expected annual salary range for this role is $60,485 - $64,114. Please note the salary information is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. The range listed is just one component of IMRF's total compensation package for employees.
