Manager, Client Asset (loan) Resolution

The Manager is a key interface on client high risk loan level casework, in order to assess issues, risks, risk mitigation strategies not only with these cases, but future such risk reduction efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Reviews highly sensitive casework from clients involving servicing errors and omission, which were deemed by clients to be caused by actual or alleged Cenlar servicing handling issues.
- Interacts directly with Clients, Cenlar Client Management or Operations management and senior staff, as required, on the initial escalation of new risk cases or damage claims;
- Provides effective updates as to Cenlar’s research efforts, corrective action plans, risk mitigation, or defense proposals on an on-going basis
- Seeks to mitigate risk, helps negotiate compromises, supports Cenlar’s position of not causing a risk, and ascertains evidence which accepts risks were caused by Cenlar; where warranted, helps Cenlar leverage its balance sheet capacity to resolve a client asset issue, or reduce Cenlar’s net risk in these matters
- Organizes financial and reputational risk factors of high profile client issue cases involving servicing errors and omissions (e.g. modified loan cannot be re-delivered due to handling issues or was modified under improper terms not supported by the GSE’s/HUD/VA, or where the collateral recovery of an asset has been deemed impaired)
- Looks objectively at the options and defenses in these cases
- Works to facilitate and obtain a valid quorum of opinion internally with operations, legal, client management, credit risk, and balance sheet management in order to effectively address the issues timely and effectively
- Maintains an effective actionable control log of open cases for discussions with Portfolio Management team, Operations, management, and with Cenlar clients as required
- Executes strategy required to make the clients whole, rebut sound Cenlar positions, and negotiate and minimize risks to both Cenlar and clients where deemed prudent to do so, including purchase of such impaired or impacted assets
Interacts with Operations teams, Legal, and Client Management on the casework, in order to clarify actions taken and all facts behind each case, including methods and actions to remedy impairments where possible, focusing on root cause and long term remediation. - Interacts with Operations on high risks areas causing large impairments and damage claims, or with the potential to do so, and helps assess control data to see if the active controls will reduce such risks in the future; Addresses areas required to be enhanced to avoid future such risks
- Directs and leads team members also assigned to this effort
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, include but not limited to compliance and operational risk. Demonstrate consideration for Cenlar’s reputation as well as our clients, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards
- Oversee servicing of Cenlar’s owned assets by conducting monthly servicing file reviews, provide feedback to the Operations teams, and conduct discussions to assess control effectiveness and compliance with regulations.
- Prepare monthly portfolio reporting for various committees and leadership groups.
- Execute upon defined controls that are owned by the Portfolio Management team.
- Assist in defining opportunities to improve servicing strategies for the Cenlar owned portfolio while leading projects to implement new strategies
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of mortgage servicing leadership experience is preferred
- Extensive knowledge and skillsets in the mortgage banking and mortgage loan servicing industry required
- Detail oriented, deadline and results driven, self-directed, and strong organizational skills required
- Must have a working knowledge of the complexity of default servicing areas of collections, loss mitigation, bankruptcy, foreclosure, property preservation, claims, and REO
- Must have a strong understanding of the loan closing, escrow operations, special products, payment services, and transfer services aspects of mortgage servicing
- Strong working knowledge of the Black Knight System required in order to research and status loan level risk casework
- Strong understanding of servicing regulatory requirements required
- Strong understanding of mortgage documents, including mortgage, note, modification agreements, title policies and title issues, HUD 1 etc. required
- Strong working knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, USDA, and Ginnie Mae guidelines and practices required
- Excellent and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills required to provide a credible assessment and effective timeline chronology of case risks
- Excellent and demonstrated analytical skills required
- Ability and past demonstrated skills to interact well with other people
- Must be able to prioritize casework based on risk factors
- A strong background in assessing operational controls is required
- Familiarity with working within a defined risk and control environment while completing RCSA activities
- Assists in the development of other employees to cover same sets of risks
