JOB TITLE: Coding Specialist

SUPERVISOR: Director of Business Services

HOURS PER WEEK: 40hrs M-F (Variable start/end time)

DEPARTMENT: Business Services

HIRING BONUS: $1,000 after 90 days 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To maintain current knowledge and certification of all coding procedures, in order to audit charts and clinician documentation and be able to train staff and physicians accordingly. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (* Essential Functions) 
1. Train, educate, and communicate coding matters with providers on a regular basis.* 
2. Code and review complicated encounters, including: E/M, office procedures, surgical procedures, and  modifier coding.* 
3. Conduct regularly scheduled audits of charts and encounters to ensure proper physician  documentation coding accuracy and compliance with government and other insurance rules and  regulations.* 
4. Consistently meet work queue metrics and goals as set by administration.* 
5. Gather information regarding denials and recurring coding problems to give feedback to particular  providers and the Business Office.* 
6. Work closely with the Business Office on day-to-day issues with patients and insurance companies to  help resolve any coding and billing disputes. Communicate decisions with Business Office staff so  they can forward findings to patients and providers as necessary.* 
7. Handle patient phone calls directly when the Business Office needs assistance explaining coding  findings. 
8. Process coding requests from the Business Office within the time frame set as company standard.* 
9. Participate in regular meetings with the IT team, Business Office, and Compliance Specialist. 
10. Attend coding education webinars, conferences and meetings, as directed by Supervisor, to maintain  all applicable CEU requirements.* 
11. Keep current on Medicare and other insurance coding regulations to ensure all standards are met and  share information to appropriate parties. 
12. Take on other special projects related to coding as requested by Administration. 
13. Attend work regularly as scheduled.* 
14. Employees will not be discourteous or disrespectful to a customer or any member of the public while  in the course and scope of company business.* 
15. Work in a cooperative manner with management/supervision, coworkers, customers and vendors.* 
16. Abide by company policies.* 
17. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
AAPC or AHIMA Certification 

EDUCATION/LICENSES PREFERRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent
