POSITION: Assistant Coach – Women’s Basketball
Effective immediately: (PT) Assistant Coach – Women’s Basketball - Wilmington University, New Castle.
About Wilmington University: Wilmington University is an NCAA Division II university that competes in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), and its main campus is located in New Castle, Delaware, with the WU Athletics Complex located six miles away in Newark. The athletics department sponsors 16 varsity sports.
Wilmington University is a private, non-sectarian university, which offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide range of career areas. The University began with a charter class of 194 students in 1968 and now enrolls a diverse student body numbering more than 19,000 annually. The University offers flexible course scheduling with six ways to take a class over a 15-week semester: semester, block, modular, online, hybrid, and fusion courses.
Requirements: A Bachelor’s Degree is required. Must have excellent communication, customer service, interpersonal and organizational skills. Must be detail-oriented and able to work with diverse populations. Must be self-directed and able to make decisions independently. Must have the ability to multi-task, work independently as well as be creative and innovative. Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel and familiarity with other Microsoft Office products. Knowledge of competition and safety rules. Must always represent the University in a professional manner as well as have the ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in any situation. Must demonstrate respect for diversity in the workplace and a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive work environment that values the contributions of all employees.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
• Teach the sport of basketball at the NCAA Division II varsity level.
• Assist the head coach in recruiting efforts, including evaluating and contacting prospective student-athletes, and completing compliance logs in a timely manner.
• Assist the head coach in the scouting of future opponents.
• Provide instruction of team members, including the preparation, planning, and conducting of practice sessions.
• Teach student-athletes specific tasks, while serving as a mentor to team members.
• Assist the head coach in the supervision of team travel.
• Must take and pass the NCAA Recruiting Exam annually.
• Promote and foster an inclusive and diverse environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
• Perform other duties which may be assigned by the Head Coach and/or the Director of Athletics.
Hours of Employment: Primarily evening hours, however, the incumbent must be flexible enough with their hours to meet the needs of the department and the University. Some weekends and travel may be required.
