POSITION: Faculty, Assistant Chair, Mathematics (FT)
Effective immediately: (FT) Faculty, Assistant Chair, Mathematics – College of Education & Liberal Arts – New Castle.
Requirements: Earned doctorate in the fields of Mathematics or Data Science, or current enrollment in a relevant doctoral degree program, is preferred. Master’s degrees in the field of Mathematics or Data Science with extensive teaching and/or practical application of Statistics, Calculus, and/or Linear Algebra may be considered. The incumbent must have up to 5 years of sufficient experience to successfully perform the job. The incumbent must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Knowledge of Wilmington University database management systems (e.g., Canvas LMS, Banner, BDM, Recruit, or other Microsoft-based Student Information System) is preferred. Detail-oriented and able to work with diverse populations. Demonstrated knowledge of SPSS (or similar systems like Minitab), Zoom, and Microsoft Teams. Possesses strong written and verbal communication. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines in a service-oriented environment with competing demands. Self-directed, independent worker with sound logic and reasoning in identifying alternatives or approaches to problem-solving. Maintains professionalism and confidentiality in all situations. Contributes as a team member and team builder. Must demonstrate respect for others in the workplace and a commitment to creating a supportive work environment that values the contributions of all employees.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
• Ensure the curriculum is up-to-date, future-focused, and aligned with current industry trends in Applied Mathematics and Data Science.
• Oversee the development and continuous improvement of mathematics courses, specifically in (but not limited to) the areas of Statistics, Calculus, and Linear Algebra.
• Lead outreach and enrollment growth initiatives to attract prospective students and experiential learning opportunities.
• Cultivate and maintain partnerships with employers, alumni, internal departments (e.g. Recruiting, University Relations, Academic Support and Advising), advisory boards, and community organizations.
• Teach mathematics courses in both classroom and online formats, with a focus on upper-level content, as per contract.
• Support program Outcomes Assessment to ensure academic quality and effectiveness.
• Recruit, hire, onboard, and support the professional growth of qualified faculty.
• Provide student support and guidance to foster academic success, in collaboration with other university departments.
• Actively participate in College and University events, committees, and initiatives.
• Promote and foster a supportive environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Professor/Chair of the College.
Hours of Employment: Generally, Monday–Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with evening hours as required per teaching load/course scheduling. The incumbent must maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the needs of the University and the College. The incumbent’s schedule must be flexible enough to cover both teaching and meeting responsibilities. Travel to other Wilmington University sites is required..

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience.
