Animation and 3D Program (BS)

The College of Technology is actively seeking industry professionals (face-to-face and online/remote) to join our team and teach in the BS – Animation & 3D program. As adjunct instructors, you will play a vital role in preparing students with the essential practical skills required for a successful career in animation. We are currently looking for adjunct faculty members in the following areas:

·       Maya – 3D modeling, lighting, rendering, and related subjects

·       After Effects – Motion Graphics

·       ToonBoom – 2D Animation

·       Houdini – 3D Animation

It's important to note that adjunct faculty members are not expected to be proficient in all animation programs; you can specialize in one specific area of the industry. We are searching for passionate and experienced professionals who can inspire and guide the next generation of creative and technical animators. Our goal is to provide students with a comprehensive blend of creative and technical perspectives, fostering their growth as competent practitioners and future leaders in their chosen field, all while instilling in them a strong sense of leadership and stewardship.

To be considered for this adjunct position, applications should be able to:

  • Provide effective instruction in an animation or 3D specialty as listed above
  • Offer timely feedback to students to facilitate growth and learning 
  • Actively contribute to fostering student success
  • Bring creativity, resourcefulness, and strong problem-solving skills to the classroom environment

Position Requirements:

Specific Requirements:

  • 4+ years’ experience modeling and creating 2D or 3D content
  • Proficient in Maya, After Effects, ToonBoom, zBrush, or Houdini
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite of tools
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution (Master’s Degree preferred)
  • Video Reel and portfolio required

General Requirements:

Adjunct teaching applicants are expected to have strong communications skills, and have work experiences in the discipline in which they expect to teach. Experience teaching at the post-secondary education level is preferred.  A minimum of a bachelors degrees in a related field is required. Additional requirements are:

  • Understanding of the mission and values of Wilmington University.
  • Submit a Teaching Philosophy, following these guidelines:  Provide a description of your teaching philosophy. Your description should be no more than 1.5 pages in length and should include the following information: (1) A brief statement (5-7 sentences) explaining how you plan to provide excellence in teaching, relevancy of curriculum, and individual attention to students, which is the cornerstone of Wilmington University’s mission statement. (2) Based on your statement above, please briefly answer the following questions: (a) Explain your beliefs, theories and/or methods regarding teaching and how they shape your concept of successful teaching? (b) How do you know when you are teaching effectively? (c) How do you develop and maintain positive relationships with students? (d) How do you create a supportive learning environment? and (3) Include a summary of your thoughts on education and the role that you feel you could play in developing students to be successful in their discipline, career, and life. (This statement must be attached via the attachments area of the application; enter "see attached in the area on the application).
  • Good computer skills and be able to use MS Office software.
  • Must be willing to complete Wilmington University’s Canvas (Learning Management System) training.
  • Must be able to abide by tight deadlines required of a 7 week Block format curriculum.
  • Must have knowledge of various instructional strategies designed to meet the course instructional objectives and add to student learning.
  • Must be able to develop a personalized course outline designed to follow a generic syllabus provided by the University.
  • Must be able to provide relevant work experience to the instructional content of the course.
  • Qualified applicants may be required to complete Wilmington University’s 3-week online training program so as to demonstrate mastery in the classroom.
  • Qualified applicants, upon additional request, may be required to submit samples of the “specific requirements” section of the posting.
  • Qualified Applicants may be asked to present a 10-minute teaching sample for the Program’s Director and Chair as part of the interview process.
