An educational technology company that partners with top colleges and universities nationwide to bring their degree programs online, is looking to hire a senior-level Copywriter to a salaried, staff position on its growing, in-house creative team. This is a fully remote position. The Copywriter hired for this role will be considered part of the company's DC-area HQ team and will have the opportunity to work at the HQ offices if s/he so chooses. However, this employer had a mostly distributed workforce prior to COVID and is therefore already, truly invested in providing work location flexibility to its employees.
The Copywriter position requires at least ten years of experience writing marketing copy, including for SEO-driven webpages, data-driven advertising, and strategic email campaigns. The Copywriter should have experience collaborating with marketing teams to drive innovative creative strategy across a range of clients.
As a senior member of the creative team, the Copywriter is expected to produce the highest quality work and independently drive informed, strategic campaigns. In addition to ownership of multiple brands, this person reviews others’ work and provides creative direction and feedback.

(50%) Write copy across media, including display and print advertising, direct mail/direct response, email marketing, print collateral, websites, etc. with little to no oversight.
↳ Create original, persuasive copy that promotes and differentiates our university partner programs’ unique benefits.
↳ Independently manage new program launches and the creation of brand style guides.
↳ Understand and work from creative briefs submitted by stakeholders; meet the goals of the project as established in the brief while offering creative solutions to strategic challenges.
↳ Establish and maintain the voice, tone, and brand identity for multiple university partner programs; manage and maintain all copy assets for multiple programs and act as direct point-of-contact for those programs.
↳ Manage multiple project deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
↳ Translate complex concepts into clear, concise, and reader-friendly copy.
↳ Seek out and manage creative projects that strengthen our brands.
(30%) Act as a mentor to other writers, reviewing copy and offering constructive feedback that strengthens the work.
↳ Analyze creative briefs and ensure work meets creative goals and strategy.
↳ Work one-on-one with writers on the team to offer guidance, creative direction, and feedback on creative execution.
↳ Lead training sessions that help the team understand strategy.
↳ Proofread and edit marketing materials for clarity, style consistency, spelling, and grammar.
↳ Work closely and independently with other members of the creative team, including writers, designers, videographers, animators, and team leadership.
(15%) Lead strategic initiatives in collaboration with marketing stakeholders across brand marketing, SEO, web analytics, and advertising operations teams.
↳ Work with members of marketing teams to define initiatives that drive the business forward.
↳ Work with stakeholders and the creative traffic team to define processes that efficiently push work through the creative team.
↳ Present plans to the creative team and ensure understanding of strategy and alignment of work from ideation to completion.
↳ Approach projects collaboratively, working with stakeholders across marketing, while upholding the team’s mission and values.
(5%) Act as a leader on the creative team, offering support to managers and team leadership.
↳ Establish new processes and efficiencies across the creative team.
↳ Work with marketing stakeholders to understand and communicate best practices across a range of data-driven marketing formats as well as performance data.
↳ Communicate concerns, challenges, ideas, and solutions with manager and/or team leadership.
↳ Conduct interviews with copywriter candidates, and assist with training of new team members.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
* Minimum 10 years of experience.
* Bachelor's degree required; master’s degree in relevant field a plus.
* An online or PDF portfolio of advertising and/or marketing copywriting work that is both broad and deep, and which includes numerous examples that would be considered clearly relevant to the position as it is outlined in this job description.
* Can write in different voices.
* Must have expert knowledge of AP and Chicago style and experience using client style guides.
* Experience in higher education is preferred.
* Experience in an advertising or marketing agency setting preferred.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work on cross-functional teams.
* Experience managing large, cross-functional projects.
* Experience delegating, directing, and providing feedback to other writers.
* Ability to think of creative, unorthodox solutions when needed.
* Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
* Openness to feedback and ability to take direction.
* Ability to drive projects without a lot of oversight

Based on conversations we have had with the employer Brainstorm Creative Resources is advertising a broad salary range of $78K to $90K. Additionally, the employer offers double-digit bonus compensation that is based on company performance (so, not on individual performance). Bonuses have been paid at close to the maximum advertised level or higher during all recent years. We will be glad to provide specific bonus target details to the most qualified applicants.
It is unlikely (but not impossible) that we will be able to offer a salary at the top of the range, to mid-career Copywriters who minimally qualify based our advertised experience and skill requirements. Alternatively, ideally experienced, senior-level Copywriters can expect that we will make a strong case to our client, to offer you a salary at the top of the advertised range.
The actual salary offered will be commensurate with experience and based largely on the following factors: credentials as detailed in your resume; the depth, breath and quality of your copywriting portfolio; your interview experiences with Brainstorm Creative Resources and/or our client; and quality of reference providers and references provided.
