UI / UX Designer .:. Strategic Creative Agency (WFH | 20 hrs/week)

Location: DC-Washington
Company Order Number: 1529
# of openings: 1

Description

A Washington, DC-based strategic communications agency is looking to engage an experienced interactive designer in a consistent part-time role offering 20 billable hours/week. Applicants must be available for M-F dayside communications, although it is fine to spread actual work time across dayside, evening and weekend hours.

We expect the working relationship to continue for at least three months, but there is the possibility that an extension into the new year may be offered. It is also possible that the person in this role might be strongly considered for a full-time, staff position at any point during the freelance engagement period. (Although an interest in full-time work is definitely not required.)

This is a fully remote (i.e. work from home), freelance opportunity. That said... We are ideally interested in talking with designers who live within a commutable distance of downtown, Washington, DC, and who appreciate the value of in-person collaboration. This will add value to the working relationship if the freelance engagement extends well into the future or if a full-time position is offered.

The agency's clients reflect a typical DC mix, including everything from international, consumer-facing corporations to B2B service providers with household names; to non-profits of all sizes with widely varying missions.

Brainstorm has worked closely with the client organization to identify designers on many staffing and recruitment projects since 2010. We can provide plenty of additional information to the most well qualified applicants.

OVERVIEW:
The designer in this role will be tasked with designing rich interactive experiences for Web and mobile users, as well as social media graphics and infographics. Ideal candidates will have experience working on collaborative design teams and will be comfortable interfacing with internal clients, project managers and writers to produce effective and creative digital solutions that help external clients achieve their goals and objectives. Strong communications skills and an upbeat personality are key along with the ability to multitask.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate a depth and breadth of interface design experience via portfolio examples from throughout their careers (and particularly, work done in recent years) and should be able to communicate via a resume or other work examples, that they contributed to UX design on multiple projects. We're most focused on our client's interface design needs, but also truly seeking applicants who can prove they have UX experience as well.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
• 5+ years of consistent, ongoing, professional experience working as an interactive designer.
• User Interface design (UI) and user experience design (UX), clearly supported by your sample work.
• Expert-level knowledge of applicable Adobe Creative Suite design tools.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
* Experience creating work for a wide range of clients (rather than just one), industries and applications.
* Experience with logo & identity development and collateral systems.
* Knowledge of print design processes and best practices.

COMMITMENT SUMMARY:
(1) Part-time @ 20 hours/week;
(2) for three months, likely w/ an option to extend;
(3) working remotely (from home, etc.);
(4) starting in September;
(5) and also offering a possible transition to full-time work (if desired).

SALARY / PAY RATE:
Based on conversations we have had with the employer, Brainstorm Creative Resources has determined a pay rate range of $65 - $85/hour. The actual rate and/or salary offered at any point in the future will be commensurate with experience and market norms. It will also be based on some or all of the following factors: credentials as detailed in your resume, your portfolio, interview experiences with Brainstorm Creative Resources and our client, and quality of reference providers and references provided.

Brainstorm Creative Resources strives to pay competitively! However, it is unlikely (but not impossible) that we will be able to pay less experienced applicants at the top of the stated rate range. More experienced applicants can expect that we will make a strong case to our client, to pay you at the top of the range.

We have qualified this role as good fit for a highly experienced design professional, but we would be glad to hear from talented mid-career individuals who clearly communicate in resumes and/or cover letters, why they are ready to step up.
