Senior Direct Mail Designer (FT WFH | Through Oct. 2024)

Location: District of Columbia (Washington, DC)
Company Order Number: 1583
# of openings: 1

Description

An award-winning direct mail firm seeks a smart and energetic Senior Designer who wants to help advance the progressive movement by designing for campaigns that will get Democrats elected across the country.

This is a fully remote (work from home) role with a weekly salary. The same salary will be paid week over week, regardless of the number of hours worked.

The role will require a contribution of at least 30 hours/week. During August, September and October, many weeks will likely require a commitment of 50-60 hours. Applicants who stand out will communicate to us that they understand why the increased time commitment can be essential when supporting active campaigns. We are open to  considering amazing designers living anywhere in the United States, but will be looking to identify someone who is comfortable working during typical east coast hours.

Work will continue through the end of October; we expect the engagement to end at that time. However, there is a sincere possibility that the person who is offered this position could be offered a staff position with the client organization, or asked to continue supporting them on projects long into the foreseeable future.

Ideal applicants will be able to demonstrate that they have driven design efforts from start to finish -- preferably in design studio or advertising agency environments. We are looking for a design thought leader. But this is also a hands-on design role with execution responsibilities and a high volume of deliverables. We're interested in receiving inquiries from designers with direct mail and/or political experience, but previous experience around elections is not required.
The hiring firm's partners and staff are a hard-working group who are used to collaborating in a high energy workplace. The Senior Designer will need to multi-task easily in a deadline-driven workflow. Time management skills and the ability to juggle projects while remaining creative will be important.

The Senior Designer will report to the hiring firm's partners, whom we have supported regularly since 2017. The design work environment is Mac, and the firm makes regular investments in the creative team's hardware and software to stay up-to-date.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
* 5+ years of experience working consistently in a titled graphic design position, including highly recent employment and/or freelance experience working at the Graphic Designer or Senior Designer levels, or higher.
* Design experience should consist mostly of print work. Direct mail, advertising and PR campaign work is preferable.
* Expertise in design software including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat.
* Highly creative, with both artistic and critical-thinking skills.
* Strong conceptual ability and experience in design layout.
* Experience packaging production files for printing.
* Attention to detail in all aspects of work.
* Self-starter, who is reliable, adaptable, and flexible.
* A sense of ownership and responsibility over your work product.
* Comfort and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment under set deadlines, even while working remotely.
* Interactive experience is a plus.
* Experience working with Slack is a plus.

LOCATION:
All work can be done remotely (i.e. from your home) anywhere in the United States. The client organization formerly had offices in the Washington, DC area but has transitioned to a fully remote workforce in recent years.

HOURS:
We are seeking well qualified individuals who are interested in the following situation:

(1) working at least 30 hours/week -- with availability of 50-60+ hours required in Aug., Sept. and Oct.;
(2) ideally during east coast business hours;
(3) entirely from a remote location (your home, etc.) anywhere in the United States;
(4) through at least the end of October 2024.

RATE:
This fully remote role comes with a weekly salary. The same salary will be paid week over week, regardless of the number of hours worked. It will not fluctuate; you will be paid the agreed upon weekly salary even if you work fewer than 40 hours during any given weeks.

Based on previous weekly rates we have paid to Senior Designers and Art Directors in similar roles, we expect to be able to offer a weekly rate for this role that is in the broad range of $1600 to $2000.

We are interested in hearing from demonstrably talented and established Graphic Designers, Senior Designers and Art Directors with varying years of experience.

It is unlikely (but not impossible) that we will be able to pay rising Graphic Designers at the top of the stated range. Alternatively, highly experienced Senior Designers and Art Directors whose resumes and portfolios communicate substantial, relevant experience can expect that we will make a strong case to our client, to pay you near or at the top of the range.

The actual rate offered will be commensurate with your experience and will largely be based on the following factors: credentials as detailed in your resume, your portfolio, your interview experiences with Brainstorm Creative Resources and/or our client, and quality of reference providers and references provided.

BENEFITS:
The employer offers health, dental and vision insurance benefits to salaried freelancers and their dependents after ninety days of service. We will gladly provide additional benefits information to the most well qualified applicants.
