WHOLE LOAN OPERATIONAL/ACCOUNTING ANALYST

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Whole Loan Team is responsible for the day-to-day management of Ellington’s whole loan business. The team is responsible for coordinating loan fundings, portfolio monitoring including liquidity and trade allocations, coordinating with each trading desk to make sure that all trades are booked properly, position and portfolio data is properly reported, and that PNL is computed correctly for each book.  The team collaborates with various areas of operational risk management, Ellington’s valuation oversight group, Ellington’s external and regulatory reporting function, and various other teams focused on the setup and structuring of Ellington’s residential whole loan strategies. The group also coordinates closely with Ellington’s technology team in the design and testing of changes and improvements to Ellington’s proprietary whole loan management system and related portfolio management and reporting frameworks. 

The analyst will be a generalist within the team, with broad exposure to all of the above, and responsibilities that will increase with experience and demonstrated expertise.  The position will be located at our office in New York City.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Prepare funding schedules and supporting documentation for loan acquisitions and originations
  • Validating servicer onboarding and transfer dates are accurate, reconciling and processing monthly whole loan servicer remittance tapes
  • Coordinate with Middle Office and Operations on liquidity, trade allocations, and settlement
  • Assist in team response to daily flow of requests and inquiries from portfolio management, loan sellers and loan servicers
  • Support for data integrity related to quantitative and qualitative loan characteristics
  • Assist in day-to-day repo financing and help plan strategic approach to managing whole loan strategies
  • Assist in relationship management and onboarding for loan servicers, loan sellers, custodians, repo counterparties, and trustee/calculation agents
  • Work with custodian and loan sellers to ensure collateral is checked in prior to funding and ensure all trailing documents are sent to custodian
  • Review servicer notes and delinquencies, monitor prepayment protection
  • Assist in development of Ellington’s proprietary whole loan portfolio management system
  • Conduct initial analysis on trading activity to confirm accuracy and appropriateness
  • Assist in profit/loss calculations for whole loan products
  • Assist in audit requests related to whole loan products
  • Assist in tax amortization calculations for whole loan products

Desirable qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Creative problem solver with a desire to apply that aptitude in a fast-paced and complicated environment
  • Extremely detailed oriented and organized, with a willingness to learn and be challenged
  • Proficiency in Excel required; some familiarity with computer programming desired (SQL)
  • Ability to design and enact projects with minimal oversight
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
