Position: Excavator/ Dozer Operator 

Location: Toano, VA

Travel: open to regional travel 

We are currently looking for a Dozer Operator to join our team at our I 64 Widening project. Reporting to direct field supervision, the Dozer Operator is responsible for proficiently and safely operating all required equipment, to include GPS equipped dozers. The ideal candidate is able to carry out rough grade and finish grade operations, assist with moving dirt and stone, trenches and other tasks. He or She should be able to work independently as well as be able to communicate effectively. This position works along with the entire Project Team to support the completion of assigned construction projects and ensures all plans move forward to meet projected deadlines in safe manner. This is a safety sensitive position requiring work on construction sites with various safety hazards inherent in heavy construction. 

This position is subject to drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of Heavy Highway experience, operating dozers proficiently
  • Familiar with grading, slopes, stormwater/water systems, paving, bridge construction, and other highway construction scopes.
  • Experience utilizing GPS systems on a dozer for finish grade operations highly beneficial                                                                        
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented

Essential Functions: 

  • Manipulate or depress hand and/or foot controls including pedals, levers and buttons to regulate speed and direction of dozer.
  • Experience with dozer GPS Trimble system a plus.
  • Ability to perform both rough and finish grade tasks on dozer. 
  • Perform preventative maintenance—clean, lubricate and maintain equipment.
  • Inspect equipment daily for defective parts and records date and malfunction in a log.
  • Move, pick up and grade material—including earth and stone and other material.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds from ground level to waist level.
  • Must be able to sit for up to 3-4 hours at a time.
  • Must be able to climb into cab of equipment and climb down from the equipment cab
  • Must be able to bend, squat, kneel and crawl to perform essential tasks including maintenance and inspection of equipment
  • Must be able to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands
  • Must have the ability to work on uneven surfaces. 
  • Required to have acceptable corrected vision (in both eyes) and acceptable corrected hearing
  • Must be able to work outdoors in wet, muddy, cold, hot and humid weather.
