Position: CDL A Driver/Yard Laborer

Travel: primarily based out of Dinwiddie, VA Field Service Center; other projects regional in Virginia

Reporting to the Yard Foreman, the CDL Driver/ Laborer is responsible for all routine on-site of loading and unloading construction materials and assisting with yard maintenance and facilities maintenance, among other tasks. The driving portion of this role is responsible for truck inspections, loading and unloading a lowboy trailer, driving and operating a truck either in our yard or on the construction site. The Driver is to load, haul and unload construction equipment including but not limited to excavators, skid steers, loaders, and other equipment or structures. Other tasks may include but not limited to operating equipment including but not limited to excavators and dozers, carrying heavy objects, stacking materials, cleaning of job site. This position works along with the entire Yard and Project Team to support the completion of assigned construction tasks and ensures all plans move forward to meet projected deadlines.  

This is a safety sensitive position requiring work on construction sites with various safety hazards inherent in heavy construction.

This position is subject to drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.

Qualifications:

  • 1 year experience driving a tractor trailer; experience in Heavy Highway construction preferred 
  • CDL A with Tanker Endorsement required 
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Experience operating construction equipment safely including but not limited to forklifts, loaders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented

     

    Essential Functions

  • Perform general upkeep and maintenance of the yard, parking lot and buildings 
  • Clean and wash various construction equipment.
  • Loading, unloading construction equipment onto and from lowboy
  • Sorting and/or stacking of incoming equipment and material.
  • Use oxygen/acetylene to cut steel using torch.
  • Preparing equipment/materials for shipment or delivery as per work orders.
  • Transport equipment, parts and/or materials to job sites locally or regionally using both commercial and noncommercial vehicles.
  • Driving on rough terrain in a safe manner
  • Performing routine maintenance to equipment on a daily basis and reporting any mechanical problems immediately to the supervisor
