Get to Know This Role
The Director of Plant Operations provides leadership and oversight to all manufacturing, co-packing, and co-manufacturing operations involved in the production of our world class beers and alcoholic beverages. This role is accountable for the day-to-day operations activities ensuring efficient delivery of our products while meeting all quality standards. The responsibilities are broad in scope, encompassing a wide variety of activities. The Director of Plant Operations will collaboratively develop new and existing procedures and processes to continuously improve the operations effectiveness. This role is a member of the S&OP Management Team and is responsible for plant P&L and will contribute to the company strategic goals by supporting expansion initiatives, capital planning, and alignment of operations at all sites. Additionally, this role oversees the support functions to our customer facing businesses providing maintenance, brewery support, and raw ingredients. This role is responsible for production and support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Safe Quality Food (SQF) System as defined in the SQF Code. There will be Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety and Food Security Training as required by Local, State, Federal and SNBC policies. All duties will be completed in a manner that is consistent with all aspects of Company Safety Rules, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Safe Quality Foods (SQF). Employees shall report food safety & quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.

What You Will Do
  • Accountable for the consistent performance of the manufacturing operations team by ensuring programs and procedures are appropriately developed and followed.
  • Ensures availability of resources including people, equipment, and training to achieve quality and food safety objectives; supports the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the quality and food safety system. This includes shared resources with other on-site teams or departments.
  • Lead and support site-wide and company-wide business expectations, goals, projects, and culture. Evaluate overall plant performance by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data and metrics to focus continuous improvement efforts; encourages and promotes operating in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Oversees all aspects of the co-packing/co-manufacturing operations; including purchasing, scheduling, manufacturing, warehousing, shipping/receiving, quality assurance, innovation, and customer service.
  • Focus on safety of the manufacturing operations employees and ensures the business is always operated with employee safety as the number one priority in alignment with the EHS&S team.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance to meet, monitor and improve product specifications; support and execute reactions and corrections to non-conforming products.
  • Staff, develop, and performance manage direct reports; establishes robust succession plans in partnership with human resources.
  • Provides, justifies, administers, and manages the manufacturing operations P&L and capital budgets; monitors operation expenses and research ways to reduce costs while maintaining product quality and production targets.
  • Provides ongoing direction, support, leadership, and guidance to teams to meet goals and objectives.
  • Partners with human resources to develop the organization’s people strategies including but not limited to the interview and selection process, employee training and development, and employee relations
  • Partners with retail functions to understand support needs and provide required resources in maintenance and brewery support.
  • Ensures plant compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, human resources policies, and environmental regulations; maintains ongoing knowledge and awareness of these areas.
  • Removes production constraints; allocate human and equipment resources and direct production employees to attain all established goals.
  • Researches and implements industry best practices and compliance initiatives to evolve the operations standards.
     
  • This role requires the ability to work non-standard hours as needed to meet objectives

 

Please Apply if You Have
  • Bachelor's Degree or any combination of experience and education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved required
  • Master's Degree preferred and
  • Diploma or certificate in Brewing/Fermentation from an accredited institution preferred
  • 9 years Progressive experience in manufacturing, engineering, and/or beverage production required and
  • 7 years leadership experience required and
  • Experience leading large teams with diverse areas of expertise preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, team building and advanced coaching skills with the ability to motivate team members and assess and develop employee skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with functional counterparts within the organization at the earliest stages of planning and development to meet plant objectives, including sharing of resources.
  • High level understanding plant operations from raw material receiving to finished goods warehousing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive and proprietary information.
  • Ability to negotiate with stakeholders to promote or sell ideas or concepts.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data to make recommendations.
  • High level of professional competence and ethical integrity
  • Excellent project management, planning, and time management skills, with the ability to balance and prioritize production and maintenance needs.
  • Extensive knowledge of industry compliance standards: including but not limited to OSHA and safety standards, Government regulatory programs, such as FDA.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • High level understanding of GMPs, CIP/sterilization operations, water chemistry and processing, brewery microbiology, Quality systems, sensory science, packaging operations, utilities, etc.
  • A strong ability to be adaptable and flexible.
  • Ability to lead decision-making processes in a team environment
  • A strong understanding of process controls
  • Working knowledge of Laboratory Operations and Quality Control procedures
  • Microsoft Office Skills, particularly Excel spreadsheets, and power BI reporting
  • Experience with brewery automation systems, preferred.
