DEA’s Marine Services Division is looking for a Marine Equipment Technician to work in our Vancouver, WA location.  In this role you will be required to work with specialized hydrographic and marine geophysical instrumentation systems performing inspections, diagnosis, minor repairs, and maintenance of equipment including managing small fabrication projects. Responsible for preparing and organizing equipment systems safely and efficiently for mobilization and demobilization, according to project requirements and agreed upon procedures. Assist in maintaining equipment inventory and manage shipping and receiving. Act as the point of contact for field staff regarding equipment and instrumentation needs or issues.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate, setup, install and maintain marine instrumentation and equipment systems
  • Manage process of scheduling repair and maintenance of vehicles, vessels and maintain systems for immediate deployment
  • Maintain inventory procedures, monitor movement of shipments and maintain shipping and receiving logs
  • Maintain warehouse and workshop to uphold a clean, safe and orderly working environment
  • Manage vessel, trailer and vehicle records, track licensing, annual inspections, certifications, and assist in managing safety and compliance
  • Support and assist with other related duties and special projects as requested
  • May occasionally conduct field work in offshore, coastal and inland marine environments

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or Technical training and minimum 3+ years relevant experience
  • Strong mechanical and technical experience/aptitude in fast-paced, changing environment
  • Able to travel and work independently as well as within a team environment, prioritizing workload and following through on tasks
  • Strong trouble shooting and analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of marine electronics and electrical wiring
  • Experience working around and maintaining engines, boats, and/or electronics
  • Experience driving large vehicles and trailering boats
  • Adept at communicating, both written and verbally

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in engineering, oceanography, marine science, or related discipline is desirable.  Relevant experience can replace degree. 
  • Knowledge and experience in applying advanced concepts, practices, and procedures as they relate to: integration of hydrographic instrumentation, networking wired/wireless communications, integration of autonomous platforms, topside and wet end cable repair.
  • Ability to advancing technical skills to maintain specialized systems used to gather and analyze hydrographic, marine geophysical, oceanographic  and other ancillary data.
