Conceives, plans and implements initiatives for the Mortgage Bankers Association’s political advocacy efforts, including but not limited to, overseeing a fundraising plan to steadily grow MORPAC to over $3mm per political cycle and increase the size and effectiveness of MBA’s grassroots lobbying network, the Mortgage Action Alliance (MAA). Responsible for developing and directing the day-to-day activities of MORPAC and MAA (including the direct management of three FTEs) to ensure these functions are on pace,or exceeding the Association’s fundraising and grassroots Strategic Operating Goals.  Serves as Assistant Treasurer of MORPAC.

Under the close direction of the Senior Vice President (“SVP”) of Legislative and Political Affairs (and in coordination with the appointed/volunteer MORPAC and MAA Chairs), this position sets strategic objectives for MBA’s overall political advocacy efforts and maintains a working knowledge of/plays a direct role in the Association’s legislative and regulatory campaigns.  Approximately 50% travel could be required for this position.





  • Acts as lead direct solicitor of association PAC funds.
  • Coordinates the execution of s regular call time and prospecting sessions with MBA leadership (e.g., CEO, Senior Officers, MORPAC/MAA Chairs & Vice-Chairs, SVP for LPA, MORPAC Steering Committee) as a means of growing PAC donor base.
  • Works in conjunction with other relevant MBA staff and volunteer leadership to promote the PAC further among members and relevant boards, BOGs, committees, councils, and industry segments.
  • Organizes and develops fundraising strategies for MORPAC events at every major MBA conference/convention and/or virtual/hybrid event. Manages MORPAC Committee members and MBA officers’ participation in MORPAC events.
  • Serves as one of MBA’s principal key contacts within the PAC community and political party organizations.  Participates in candidate fundraising activities in and out of Washington, D.C. 
  • Initiates and maintains contact with candidates for federal election and ascertains the political viability of, and need to support, these candidates at the direction of, and in coordination with MBA’s lobbyists and SVP for LPA. Receives requests for political contributions, provides an informed opinion and personal input, and authorizes preparation and further review along with appropriate background information. If authorized, issues acceptance letters and requests checks.
  • Works with MBA staff and volunteer leadership to identify and approach new targets and member segments within the industry for the purpose of PAC fundraising.
  • In coordination with the lobbyists, assists with MBA’s outreach to the Washington Representatives of member companies through regular communications, meetings, personal and MORPAC events.
  • In coordination with the SVP, works closely with MBA’s general counsel and outside legal counsel on relevant PAC solicitation guidelines and opportunities.
  • Works cross-departmentally with key internal MBA segments (e.g., Marketing and the “M-Team”) to brand, promote and encourage participation amongst MBA membership in MORPAC and MAA, appropriately utilizing social media and new technologies to help achieve overall MBA advocacy goals (in keeping with the MBA and MORPACStrategic Plans).



  • Directs and oversees all MAA activities including the day-to-day responsibilities of issuing and following up on industry “Calls to Action”; arranging and coordinating congressional recess district conference calls and meetings (in-person and/or virtual) among key legislators and MAA members; maintaining, refining and improving MAA’s grassroots database; and, supervises occasionalupdates to the MAA website. 
  • Works closely with Legislative and Political Affairs, Public Policy and Industry Relations, Commercial/Multifamily and External Relations staff on MBA’s National Advocacy Conference in a manner that maximizes MAA and MBA member participation at the conference.
  • Supervises process for maintaining information regarding key relationships among MAA members and key Members of Congress. 
  • Develops and implements strategies to recruit, educate and activate MAA members. Oversees the creation of recruitment and educational documents to be delivered to prospective MAA members. Along with the SVP for LPA, serves as the principal MBA contact for all MAA members. Keeps MAA members informed about the substance of, and developments in, MBA’s top priority advocacy issues.
  • Oversees the implementation of biennial MAA election requirements including recruiting candidates, announcing candidates to membership, conducting an online election and all follow-up. Maintains the MAA bylaws. 
  • Oversees the maintenance of the MAA key contact database and the use of garnered information.
  • Manages the representation of MAA and MORPAC at MBA conferences and other industry events.  Arranges and participates in meetings among MAA and MORPAC Steering Committee members and senior executive representatives of MBA member companies.



  • In coordination with the SVP, manages Association staff and resources (including the forecasting and allocation of the MBA budget) dedicated to Political Affairs.
  • Stays fully informed and maintains a working knowledge of all current industry policy priorities and developments, including the rhythm and flow of relevant congressional and Executive Branch activities.
  • Interacts with Members of Congress by phone regularly and at relevant political/fundraising events as needed (to assist with and supplement the efforts of the MBA lobbying team). 
  • Participates regularly in joint LPA/Public Affairs’ MBANow/Washington Update digital outreach efforts as a presenter.
  • Available to speak upon request as political advocacy/PAC/grassroots subject matter expert, both internally and externally, upon request.



Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline in addition to a minimum of seven to ten years of experience in political advocacy (e.g., fundraising, grassroots, and direct exposure to lobbying outreach) required.  Candidate experience must include all aspects of political fundraising and solicitation and grassroots planning and related execution at a heightened level.  Trade association background, familiarity with lobbying techniques, and graduate study preferred (though not mandatory depending on overall level of experience).  Excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal sales skills are a must.   Public speaking experience strongly preferred.
