Key responsibilities include:  providing research support, policy analysis, logistical assistance and special project support to the Managing Regulatory Counsel and the Associate Regulatory Counsels on the Regulatory Policy Team.  The incumbent researches policy and advocacy issues, drafts issues papers and comment letters, develops talking points for review, and assists in the preparation of general briefing materials.  With experience the incumbent has represented MBA on panels as a subject matter expert.  Incumbent will also undertake special projects on an ad hoc basis, as well as assist with certain logistical duties necessary to support MBA’s policy advocacy.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Assisting with the management of MBA’s Legal Issues and Regulatory Compliance Committee (LIRC)) and relevant subcommittees, task forces and work groups including but not limited to assisting in the planning and preparation of materials, and the planning and coordination of meeting logistics
  • Maintaining MBA’s Amicus and Litigation Databases.
  • Establishing and maintaining MBA’s LIRC community and related pages on the MBA website.
  • Providing research and support to the Regulatory Counsel and Associate Regulatory Counsels for various policy and legal issues including, but not limited to, researching and the drafting of responses to proposed rules. Also, assists in the planning of and preparation of materials for related conferences, conventions and webinars.
  • Analyzing and reporting on policy issues developments, both orally and in writing, as directed.
  • Assisting with materials and matters related to the CFPB’s servicing rules, associated regulations and work product.
  • Composing routine correspondence and written materials for review, as requested
  • Preparing talking points, briefing papers and other background materials on specific issue for review.
  • Assisting staff in representing MBA with various outside constituents.
  • Maintaining appropriate records, files and resource materials.
  • Assisting with other duties of the Regulatory Counsel and Associate Regulatory Counsel.
  • Drafting monthly updates for the Legal Issues Committee and Litigation Task Force.

Other duties as assigned.


  • Assists staff in the preparation for conferences/briefings.
  • Responds to routine inquiries regarding information on policy issues.
  • Support MBA’s work on developing policy on emerging technology issues.

Law or other graduate studies degree required.  Minimum of one year of industry related, trade association or government relations experience preferred.  Experience with data privacy or data security issues strongly preferred.  Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint preferred. Candidate must have excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and organizational skills.
