SUMMARY:

The Program and Policy Specialist will help manage key affordable homeownership efforts, including staffing MBA’s Affordable Homeownership Advisory Council, working on program and policy initiatives at the national and local level, and managing certain internal and external communication functions.  The incumbent will play a key role in the design and execution of MBA’s place-based homeownership programs focused on minority homeownership. 

 

The incumbent will help implement a strategic communications plan to ensure that MBA leadership, senior staff, members, and external stakeholders are informed of MBA’s affordable housing work.  The incumbent will also provide general project support to the Associate Vice President, Affordable Housing Initiatives.  Incumbent will prepare briefing materials, conduct outreach to key internal and external stakeholders, and assist with key strategic planning efforts.  Incumbent will also undertake special projects on an ad hoc basis, as well as assist with certain logistical and administrative duties. 

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Staffs the MBA Affordable Homeownership Advisory Council.
  • Manages the AHI communications function to ensure that MBA senior staff, members, and external stakeholders are informed of MBA’s affordable housing work.  Drafts and disburses regular updates. 
  • Works with MBA staff in marketing, public affairs, and education on the strategic utilization of various communication channels to highlight MBA’s work on affordable housing.
  • Help design and manage various affordable homeownership initiatives at the national and local level, including MBA’s place-based work on minority homeownership under CONVERGENCE. 
  • Coordinates and follows-up with external stakeholders on the execution of MBA initiatives on affordable homeownership and minority homeownership.  Ensures that key milestones and metrics are met. 
  • Manages working groups and task forces.
  • Drafts policy and program documents, agendas, and meeting summaries
  • Works with MBA staff to help coordinate, aggregate, and highlight research on affordable housing.
  • Coordinates the planning and execution of education and training initiatives related to affordable housing.
  • Works with MBA staff to elevate the brand/work of MBA’s affordable housing initiatives, including identifying speakers, topics, and presentations for key events.
  • Provide content and updates information on MBA’s CONVERGENCE (AHI) webpage, including, but not limited to, policy and industry updates as well as content on best practices, “tool kits,” and standards in the affordable housing space.

 

Other duties as assigned.

 

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist staff in the preparation for conferences/briefings.                       
  • Respond to routine inquiries regarding information on policy issues.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Highly organized and detail oriented.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deal with diverse internal and external stakeholders. Policy analysis and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work with others to design and implement action plans around specific market challenges.  Strong familiarity with issues related to affordable housing.  Working knowledge of the public policy process.  At least1-2 years of related work experience.  A network of contacts relevant to affordable housing is highly desirable.  Trade association experience a plus.  College degree required.  Advanced degree desired.
