Director of Marketing and Communications

The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) is looking for an experienced, highly pro-active Director of Marketing and Communication who will be responsible for providing internal and external leadership for the organization both regionally and nationally.  The Director of Marketing and Communication must thrive in a fast-paced environment and quickly comprehend and act on changing priorities when necessary.

Duties:

  • Create, implement, and measure the success of a comprehensive marketing, communications, and public relations program that enhances the organization’s image and position within the community and beyond.

  • Promote employee engagement through effective internal communication tools and practices.

  • Create the desired branding, image, and position by researching, writing/editing, and distributing news releases.

  • Work with an Executive Management team on state and federal opportunities that impact organizational strategy.

  • Utilize social media as a PR and communications asset.

  • Establish effective working relationships with a variety of media and community contacts (e.g. newspapers, TV, radio, social media, and bloggers.)

  • Directly supervise all aspects of TARC’s marketing and communications department, including staff, budget, contractors, and strategic vendors.

  • Manage and mentor direct reports, enhancing opportunities for their growth and advancement.
     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, marketing, communications, or related field with a minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible management/supervision experience, preferably in public or mass transportation.

  • An equivalent combination of experience and education (e.g. two (2) years of related experience, equating to one (1) year of formal post high school education) may be considered in lieu of the above requirements.

  • Thorough knowledge of, and experience in, the disciplines of marketing and communications, public relations, and news media, with awareness and appreciation of public transportation.

  • Experience presenting and conveying information  to senior management, board members, and/or public groups required.

  • Experience working with unionized workforce and/or union operations preferred, including ability to interpret and/or enforce regulations related to union operations (collective bargaining agreements, grievances, etc.).

  • Must have strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff at all levels of management and board of directors required.

  • Exceptional project management skills with ability to delegate responsibility and provide follow-through on multiple projects.

  • Produce effective communications in a variety of formats. Edits and provides constructive feedback to writing and recommendations of others. Please note, examples of writing will be requested.
