**SALARY RANGE: $80,000.00 to $90,000.00**

The Managing Editor, NewsOne leads the team and content strategy for iOne’s news and politics coverage, primarily focusing on NewsOne.com but assisting across brands. The primary roles of the ME are the development and optimization of content for news, as well as setting a tone of excellence when it comes to editorial voice, strategy, and team synergy.  Other duties include collaborating with our Audience Development team to hone audience growth strategies, overseeing budgets, managing staff, contract editors, and freelancers, overseeing quality control for NO, and successfully collaborating with other departments within the Urban One universe.  The ME is equal parts creative and analytical, with extensive experience leading cross-functional teams of content creators as they tell intriguing stories and build strong, enduring brands that are both engaging and effectively serve our audiences. A positive, enthusiastic, and energetic attitude is a must.

The Managing Editor will manage the growth and production of the editorial team and develop resources to support an aggressive, high-quality product output. The ME will be responsible for ensuring maximum team productivity and engagement.

The successful candidate is an experienced leader who still enjoys getting their hands dirty with content creation and the creative development process.  This role reports directly to the VP, Content.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct a team of content creators to produce engaging, informative, and innovative content on the NewsOne brand, with a balance of news briefs, original reported content, thought-provoking op/eds, and multimedia content.
  • Work with the aforementioned content team, including the Cross-Brand team, to proactively solicit pitches and make assignments, break news, source new stories, and commission more in-depth features and tent poles.
  • Spearhead and manage the content and distribution strategies (from conception to execution) for all NewsOne’s monthly tent poles, franchises, or daily content
  • Work closely with Content Leadership, including Audience Development, SEO, and Analytics teams, to incorporate pertinent insights into editorial decisions.
  • Collaborate directly with VP, Content, and Cross-Brand team leadership to ensure content creators adhere to iOne Digital’s breaking and trending news strategies.
  • Act as primary point of contact for Sponsored and Branded content leads to ensure cohesive communication with sales, production, editorial, client, and ad ops teams throughout the creation process, while setting and managing expectations both internally and with clients.

  • Coordinate with social, video, fellow site leads, sales, and integrated marketing to ensure that business objectives are met through editorial
  • Works closely with VP and Audience Development to set a growth strategy, establish goals, and map out ways to achieve them.
  • Instill a continued culture of collaboration and communication, journalistic ethics, and integrity.
  • Complies with Network and Urban One’s mandatory trainings and adheres to related course deadlines.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA or BFA preferred
  • 12 years’ experience in journalism, copywriting, communication, and content development.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people in various disciplines.
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • An extensive list of relevant collaborators and contacts.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and direct a team, include but not limited to:
    • Provide regular constructive feedback
    • Resolve issues/conflicts with diplomacy in a timely manner
    • Provide ongoing guidance and support for growth and development
    • Deploy effective coaching skills
    • Practical understanding of anti-harassment and discrimination laws
    • Ability to effectively administer performance reviews and corrective action plans as appropriate.
    • Ensure team (s) attend mandatory department and/or mandatory company training (s) as required.

**SALARY RANGE: $80,000.00 to $90,000.00**

Categories

  • Identifiers – This includes information that identifies you, like your name, postal address, and contact details.
  • Application details and supporting materials – The information related to your application, including both information you provided (e.g., resumes, educational and professional records and certificates, personal statements, and references) and information we gathered from other sources in connection with evaluating you as a candidate for employment (e.g., statements from your references, results of background checks that you have authorized us to perform, public records, and government records).
  • Your job preferences – Details of the type of employment you are looking for, salary and other compensation and benefits terms, willingness to relocate, and other job preferences.
  • Information from interviews and other application-related communications and submissions – The information you provide when communicating with us.
  • Protected classification characteristics under California or federal law and other sensitive personal information/demographic details. Right to Know and to Access

Consistent with applicable law, we will delete or deidentify personal information not subject to one of these exceptions from our records and as necessary will direct our service providers to take similar action.

Right to Correct Inaccurate Information

Subject to certain exceptions, and legal obligations imposed by state or federal privacy and employment laws, you have the right to request that we correct inaccurate personal information that we have collected about you. Once we receive your request and confirm your identity, we will review your request, taking into account the nature of the personal information and the purposes of the processing of the personal information to see if we can correct the data. We may also request additional information showing that the information you want to correct is inaccurate.

Right to Opt Out of the Sale or Sharing of Personal Information to Third Parties

You have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information by us to third parties. Under California law, “sell” means to sell, rent, release, disclose, disseminate, make available, transfer, or otherwise communicate orally, in writing, or by electronic or other means your personal information to a third party for monetary or other valuable consideration. “Share” means sell, rent, release, disclose, disseminate, make available, transfer, or otherwise communicate orally, in writing, or by electronic or other means your personal information to a third party for cross-context behavioral advertising, whether or not for monetary or other valuable consideration. We do not sell or share your personal information, as those terms are defined under California law.

Verification Procedures

In order to process your request, we may need to verify and confirm your request by asking you to:

Authorized Agent

You may authorize another individual or a business registered with the California Secretary of State, called an authorized agent, to make requests on your behalf. You have the right to direct us to limit our use of your Sensitive Personal Information to that use which is necessary to perform the services or provide the goods reasonably expected by an average consumer who requests those goods or services. California law considers the following personal information to be “sensitive:” social security number, driver’s license number or other government-issued identification number, financial account number, any health insurance or medical identification number, an account password, security questions and answers, or unique biometric data. We use Sensitive Personal Information only as it is necessary to achieve the purposes for which it was collected, as described above.
