ERT is seeking an Administrative Support Specialist to the NOAA Office of Education (OEd) which manages 300 student scholars per year in NOAA’s undergraduate scholarship programs. The successful applicant would serve on a 5-member team that manages all aspects of student participation, including recruitment, selection, orientation, and internships.

Tasks to be performed include the following:  

  • Support the student application, administrative review, and evaluation process.
  • Track and monitor student progress in the student scholarship programs.
  • Organize, update, and maintain electronic program files, including data entry and validation of Hollings Scholars’ data in the OED Student Tracker System.
  • Assist with the preparation of responses to request for information for review and approval by the Program Managers.
  • Prepare correspondence for signature and distribution to internal and external audiences.
  • Maintain, track, and field inquiries from the designated Scholarship phone line regarding NOAA student scholarship programs.
  • Support the scholarship program staff during the student Orientation Program and the Science and Education Symposium.
  • Assist with the planning, scheduling, organizing, and facilitation of Student Scholarship meetings.
  • Participate in student recruitment activities and events.
  • Conduct other education and outreach activities in support of the education and scholarship programs, as needed.
  • Maintain scholarship program calendar of events and activities.
  • Participate in job-related professional development, as appropriate.

Requirements

  • 2 - 5 years of related previous experience required.
  • Demonstrable software user skills on Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint; Email and MS Internet Explorer.
  • Must possess strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills (English).      
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.  No visa sponsorships available.
 
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
 
Location
Work will be performed onsite at NOAA's Silver Spring facility.
