 Biologist – Wetland Scientist

We are seeking a Biologist – Wetland Scientist for our Eastern Biology Department to report to our Columbus, OH or Richmond, VA office. This position includes the ability to work remotely from a mutually acceptable location. The selected candidate would join POWER’s team of more than 260 environmental professionals across the U.S.

 Roles and Responsibilities 

The successful candidate will conduct field assessments for various ecological projects in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic while offering support to projects across the country.

The position involves conducting wetland and waterbody delineations, organizing and summarizing field-collected data, and compiling survey reports. Candidates must be familiar with local plant populations, proficient in plant identification using plant keys, and capable of interfacing with both internal team members and client representatives.

The position is primarily a field position and will require long days outdoors in variable weather and terrain. Projects require frequent overnight travel to various locations throughout the region. Candidates must have a positive attitude, be physically prepared to work in difficult conditions and be eager to become a critical part of the POWER team. The candidate should be proficient with and/or have demonstrated experience with field collection, species identification, working as part of a diverse and dynamic project team, and growth through development of new skills.

Required Education/Experience

  • B.S. and/or M.S. in Biology, Ecology, or related field
  • Three (3) to nine (9) years of experience in environmental/biological consulting in utility or energy industry; to include transmission, renewables, power generation, and/or natural gas transmission experience
  • Experience with leading plant identification and wetland delineation activities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and commitment to quality and professionalism
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of the 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineations Manual and appropriate regional supplements
  • Experience with Clean Water Act and Endangered Species Act regulations
  • Experience with writing technical reports or permit sections
  • Working knowledge of GPS technologies
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the region with potential travel throughout the U.S. Up to 60% travel is expected.
