Intermediate Civil/Structural Utility Vault Designer/Engineer (Hybrid)

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking an Intermediate Distribution Designer/Engineer for our Airdrie, Alberta office. Flexible work environment, includes hybrid and work from home options available and will be discussed further in the interview process.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop new designs by applying knowledge of electric utility systems and their operation
  • Apply engineering calculations to various project challenges to develop complete and competent designs
  • Compilation of design packages for construction
  • Perform quality reviews of project deliverables
  • Authenticate finished designs and deliverables for client construction
  • Network with clients and maintain client relationships
  • Some travel will be required

Required Education/Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree or a Technology diploma in Civil or Structural Engineering, additional engineering backgrounds will be considered
  • Five (5) + years of experience in the design and operation of reinforced cast in place underground utility vaults
  • Experience in the design, operation, construction, and maintenance of reinforced cast in place underground utility vaults
  • Exposure to utility standards, CSA, and an understanding of powerline construction techniques
  • Ability to work in design teams and is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks, and take the initiative to learn the position
  • The ability to lead and direct a team of engineers, designers, and drafters
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite

Desired Education/Experience

  • Eight (8) + years of experience in the design and operation of reinforced cast in place underground utility vaults
  • Prior utility design experience or distribution/transmission underground line work is highly preferred
  • Strong computer design skills, the ability to learn new software packages efficiently, and retain and apply on the job training
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills in the English language to communicate effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
  • Managerial and leadership experience is an asset
