Mid Level Substation Design Engineer

Job Summary

POWER Engineers is currently seeking a Mid Level Electrical Engineer with experience in substation design. This position is in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our San Diego, California office. Flexibility is available to work remotely and/or in the office. Remote employees may travel to a POWER office for periodic meetings.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations.
  • One-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling.
  • Occasional travel will be required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Ability to function as a Mid Level Substation Design Engineer for the San Diego location of our Substation Business Unit.
  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option.
  • Experience in 15kV through 230kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.
  • Experience in managing small project teams.
  • Experience filling the role of substation design engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

Desired Education/Experience

  • Five (5) or more years experience in utility substation design as outlined above.
  • Experience in 345kV through 500kV substation design
  • Professional Engineering license (PE).
  • Managerial and leadership skills a plus.

Salary DOE: The pay range for this position is $75,000.00-93,000.00 per year; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation, 401k, etc.
