Senior Substation Project Engineer

Job Summary

POWER Engineers is currently seeking a Senior Level Electrical Engineer to work as a Substation Project Engineer in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our San Diego, California office. Flexibility is available to work remotely and/or in the office. Remote employees may travel to a POWER office for periodic meetings.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Grow and manage relationships with local clients
  • Mentor less experienced staff in substation project execution
  • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations including one-line diagrams, three line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling
  • Ensure POWER quality procedures are followed and that the team is resourced in an optimal manner
  • Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients across multiple offices
  • Manage all schedule, budget, and quality of assigned projects

Required Education/Experience

  • Ability to function as a Senior Substation Project Engineer for the San Diego location of our Substation Business Unit. 
  • BSEE (BS in Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS in Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option
  • Professional Engineering license (PE) or ability to obtain within one year
  • Experience in 15kV through 345kV physical and electrical substation design, and IEEE/ANSI standards
  • Experience in managing 5 or more people on a project team
  • Experience filling the role of project engineer for several projects occurring concurrently
  • The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

Desired Education/Experience

  • Ten or more years experience in utility substation design is preferred
  • Experience with and established positive relationships with local clients
  • Experience in 345kV through 500 kV substation design

Salary DOE: The pay range for this position is $95,000.00-120,000.00 per year; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation, 401k, etc.
