Mid Level Substation Design Engineer
Job Summary
POWER Engineers is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer in the San Antonio, TX area to work as a Substation Design Engineer in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our San Antonio, TX office. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of the office).
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations including, but not limited to:
- One-line diagrams
- Schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- SCADA
- Communications
- Station physical layouts
- Sections/Elevations
- Cable and conduit plans and details
- Ground grid design and details
- Foundation plans and details
- Structural plans and details
- Control enclosure design and details
- Lightning protection plans
- Yard lighting plans
- Construction cost estimates and contracts
- Bill of Materials
- Project scheduling and coordination
- Site visits
- Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients.
- Occasional travel will be required.
Required Education/Experience
- Ability to function as a Mid Level Substation Design Engineer with the San Antonio location of our Substation Business Unit.
- BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option.
- Experience in 15kV through 500kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.
- Experience in managing small project teams.
- Experience filling the role of substation design engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) registration.
- The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Desired Education/Experience
- Five (5) or more years experience in utility substation design as outlined above.
- Professional Engineering license (PE) strongly preferred, or ability to sit for the exam within 6 months.
- Managerial and leadership skills a plus.
